    Arizona: Constitutional Carry starts Thursday

In less than a week, Arizona residents will be allowed to carry a gun in their pocket or purse without needing paperwork to do so. Senate Bill 1108, which allows people to carry concealed guns with no permit takes effect on July 29.

Lott: Gun control advocates make up facts about Right-to-Carry laws

People walking the streets armed with guns must be dangerous, right? The Brady Campaign and the Violence Policy Center keep claiming that even those individuals who have legally obtained permits to carry concealed handguns are extremely dangerous. With millions of Americans already having been issued such permits from the various states, this is an important issue. The gun control organizations have frequently made these claims in the press. The Associated Press articles by Erik Schelzig and by Jim Abrams have given extensive, uncritical coverage. Members of the gun control organizations have made these claims unchallenged on such places as Fox News and on the Huffington Post. But the gun control advocates inaccurately describe many shooting cases, choosing to ignore that the majority of incidents involve people properly defending themselves.

Law abiding Az Patriots...just remember to help protect me from the other crazies that don't take the responsibility to educate themselves on self defense laws or learn to safely handle or operate their firearm. I am glad that we have the right to carry with out a permit, but am a little concerned about the few idiots that will be out there as well. Just imagine if somebody pulls a gun on you because you looked at him funny or said something off key to him. If you choose to carry, please take th time to educate yourself like Packerfan. We need to get the word out there about justification, responsibility and safety.

I believe two other states allow this as well.
Alaska for sure and I cannot recall the other.

Training is important and the resposibility is very important with or without a state issued paper.

Some will carry that did not choose to before due to the CCW regs.
Some did anyway, I do not expect wild shootouts as many predict now as they did when CCWs were offered.

Seems like classes for a permit might help teach justification, responsibility, and safety. I dunno about AZ (before this law) but I have several friends here in IA that pack heat, concealed, everywhere they go. They went through classes, jumped through hoops and a bunch of other bullshit, but it meant enough to them to stick it out. Prolly even taught them a few things along the way. Certainly patience. Is this unconstitutional? Regardless, if you're a responsible gun owner (and potential concealed carrier) why would permits be a deterrence? YOU WANT IT NOW, or have something to hide. It has nothing to do with being 'American' like so many claim.

If you expect the people of Arizona (or anywhere) to do this sort of education on their own free will, or you 'believe' in people, think they're naturally responsible, and - dare I say it - smart, you're sorely mistaken. It's laughable even. Gun owners or not, every bunch has a bushel of morons, and now that Arizona bushel is armed, legally. Some will say that waking up each day, strapping your Glock to your ankle, and heading out into the public is admirable and patriotic. I catch your drift. I would also like to believe that if a person packing heat did something that warrants me breaking their nose they wouldn't pull that fucker on me. I commend probably everybody reading this for being responsible gun owners who wouldn't carry to start shit with impunity, but I'm not stupid enough to give that benefit of the doubt to every person packing.

Nor am I assuming the number of concealed weapons in Arizona will dramatically rise now that this has passed. It's like assuming the amount of pot I have on me at any given moment would increase if it was suddenly legal. People do what they want anyway.

Looking forward to seeing how this thing turns out. Kudos to the State for blazing a trail.

Having just taken the CCW class on Sunday I highly recommend it to people who are thinking about carrying without the permit. Here are the advantages of having a CCW.

AZ CCW permit advantages after the new CCW law goes into effect.7/29/20107/29/2010July7/29/2010:

    1. The ability to carry concealed in other states that require a CCW permit. Arizona is accepted in approximately 33 other states.

    2. The ability to carry concealed in eating establishments and/or Bars that serve alcohol for consumption on the premises, providing the facility IS NOT posted "No Firearems" allowed!

    3. Skipping the NCIC check when purchasing a firearm from a FFL dealer.

    4. Most importantly: You will get valueable Use Of Deadly/Physical Force information so that you can make the best decision for youand/or family!!!! You will get this information in print (from us) so that you have the info at your finger tips for future use and/or reference!!!

Thanks Matt. Mailed out the application this morning. Now I need to go out shooting with you to learn some aiming tips. I really favor the left side for some reason.

So will there still be age restrictions on who can carry them around, or will it still be 18 or 21 as the minimum age? I guess I'm asking can a minor legally carry one around now?

Sometimes I wish I lived in AZ.

i think that would be quite a deterrent for the average criminal if more people were packin heat lol
