Ok. Going to put my front suspension lift on this weekend. I purchased the bushing from ECGS. I had a 2008 Tundra that I did this same thing to and have the tool. However the tab at the end that is responsible for pulling out the needle bearing was a tad too big. Talked with ECGS and said to grind it down. Well, I did...but too far..shit. Anyone know what I could do? It’s the right size for the new bushing but barely. Pretty sure it would be a little small for the thinner needle bearing. I really don’t feel like pulling the axle for the hell of it. I will however proceed with my lift install and prepare for the vibrations. I just want to have the ability to pull it if it starts showing signs right away.

You can try to weld a piece of material to it and try grinding it down again?

Lots of people have the tool. Poke around the search bar and see if you can find some others offering it up in other threads and reach out to them directly.

I borrowed the tool from a member here so I’m sure you can find someone to borrow from.

Thought about that. It’s just such small tolerance. Just need an easy way out at this point.

That would be great. All I need is the small tab. I live in AK and it cost 3( bucks shipping just to get the bushing. Should be pretty cheap to throw it in a priority box.

Do you have a cut off tool? Get a thin strip of metal, cut to right size, drill hole in middle and put in front of the piece that’s too small.

I have a complete tool that I would sell you for $30 shipped. I can send it priority mail but it would probably would not get there until Tuesday or so.

I spent a couple frustrating hours trying to get the ECGS tool to fit behind the bearing, but just couldn't get it to work. I went to AutoZone and rented their pilot bearing puller tool, took all of 2 minutes to get it out at that point. I really have no idea why it's not more common to use this tool, it's SO much easier than the ECGS tool. It actually pissed me off because of how much time I wasted. Just had to be careful not to extend the puller too far and scratch surface of the diff.

I will see if I can figure it out today. Going to install coilovers within a couple of hrs. Thanks for the heads up. No autozone here unfortunately. Good idea though.

Sorry. Just seeing this. I might take you up on this if I can’t get it figured out this week end.

Isn’t the tool made to protect the seal? Did you replace the seal behind the bearing as well? Great info.

I did replace the seal where the CV axle goes into the diff if that's what you mean, but I don't think the puller tool would have damaged it. The pilot bearing puller tool doesn't really do anything differently than the ECGS tool. It had two fingers that spread apart and grab the bearing from behind. Then I attached a slide hammer and slowly knocked it out of the diff. Tool looks like this https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/xlarge/oes-27059_xl.jpg
