Carry Sawyer squeeze in my backpacking set up. It uses the bigger Sawyer filter not the mini. Super easy to use attaches to 1l smart water bottles or can use the squeeze bags. As long as you pre filter through a bandanna it helps cut down clogging and the need to back flush.

 

In my truck at all times: Shovel, first aid kit, air compressor, full range of tools, pry bar, breaker bar, jumper cables, fuses, fire extinguisher, road flares, volt meter, zip ties, JB weld, maps, binoculars, two jacks, extra coolant, extra oil, 5 gallons of water, water filter, sleeping bag, pillow, memory foam bed, wool blanket, gloves, mints, CB radio, Ham Radio, charging cables for phone, hammer(s), spare tire, tire gauge, extra belts, upper and lower radiator hose, power bars. Need to add a rechargeable battery jumper. When I'm going backpacking, the list is more extensive.

 

i'm surprised more people don't carry "mints".

 

You never know when you need some fresh breath! Haha

 

All this fits in a Single cab?!

 

Yes, the bed, sleeping stuff, shovel and water are in the bed, inside the camper. The tools etc are under my seats. The air pump, jacks, pry bar, etc are behind my seats. I have a shity sound system... when I have time I’ll post some pictures of what I have.

 

no max traxx or pick-axe, chainsaws are handy too.

 

I have a Tupperware full of Bob's soft mints in my center console. Good was to keep the kids quiet and help when you are running out of energy.

 

I just got this compressor from work the other day. It works with the bed outlet. I will haul it when i go out wheeling. That night when i got home I made a few brackets to hold hold my shovel.

 

Working on a headrest mount for a 2.5lb fire extinguisher. More to come shortly.

 

I bought a BC fire extinguisher for the Tacoma since I read it won't ruin the electronics like the others will if you have a fire in the engine bay. Any truth to that or should I have gotten an ABC extinguisher?

If it’s in regards to the headrest mount, the headrest would have to be the point of failure in a severe accident for it to be dangerous. I’ve seen similar setups on rural fire vehicles, forest service trucks, and SAR rigs. They also don’t interfere with side curtain airbags if they deploy in an accident. I should note that nobody is sitting in the back seat if it’s mounted there, but most of my DC backseat is for storage and the dog.

Picked up this last night to finally complete my trauma kit and tie everything together in a single package. Also added a sawyer bite and sting kit which I think is well worth the money for exploring in AZ and the SW

Got around to finishing my fire extinguisher mount. I don’t really use the back seat but imagine this would be practical for ACs as well. $30 in hardware and 10 minutes to install. Rock solid, and it takes the rattle out of my headrests! As for safety, my last setup on my 4Runner easily survived the impact of a 50mph T-Bone collision. It also did not interfere with side curtain airbag deployment. My 4Runner was not so lucky...

 

Thread popping back up is a good reminder I need to update/add to my kit before the wife and I head up to UT in September. Need to get quick first mounts to add full size shovel and axe. In case we get stuck solo. Need to update my backpacking first aid kit. After my sinus infection impacted my gut on the last camping trip I realized there was no antacid or imodium in there.

Also need to add benadryl and zyrtec. Wife has severe peanut allergy and if she can get benadryl or zyrtec in her system before going to the EPI pen it's a big help same thing after injection. She's never been stung by a bee so don't know if she'll go anaphylactic after a sting or not. We've had one EPI pen injection fail which resulted in a 911 call and ambulance ride. I worry about the same thing happening in the backcountry. I know now if I can get meds in her before her throat closes it's a big help plus a backup epi pen.

Last but not least big trauma kit to permanently stay in the truck along with fire extinguisher. Open to recommendations for both.

 

The trauma kit I mentioned above should be big enough for most cases. I personally like to build my own kits, so I know exactly what’s in it and where everything is. Just a habit of mine on deployments and training exercises. Any personal meds are always necessary IMO, and I’ve started carrying Gu packets as well for diabetics. As for fire extinguishers, I just went with a 2.5lb in cab, where it’s quick to access and use. The trauma pouch will attach to the passenger seat headrest so that it’s also quick to grab. May not look cool but it works and is the most practical. We’d outfit our vehicles in the Middle East the same way. I’ll try and work on putting together a more comprehensive list of trauma kit items.

 

Added both Tums and loperamide to my kit once I got home. I almost have some kind of antacid with me! Sorry about that.
