My love for Texas and Alabama far outweighs my personal hate for snow and sustained temps under 45 degrees. (really more like 70 degrees, but I'm not moving THAT far south, because, chaffing.)

Yeah, its interesting all the tech that is available now.

I still think they could regulate the bats and not let them be so "hot". If you have good swing mechanics to include a consistent swing path, good balance and proper weight transfer, you can poke a ball pretty far with a wooden bat. The sweet spot on these bats now is really big, the bats are made of thinner metals which really transfers a lot more energy and they are much lighter weight. Plus, with nutrition, weight training and conditioning, some of these kids are up to 30% more athletic than "back in my day".

I think they need to look at the size of the field these kids are playing on as well. When I watch the Little League World Series, these teams look like they are playing on a T-ball field.

I think I may be working on the wife pretty good to consider moving.

So far, the only location in Texas that she's even cracked her defenses on is Waco. (This is due to the fact that Crawford is nearby and she kinda wants to live by the Bush family....don't ask, I dont get it...)

She said she'd be the Bush's neighbor, but in that area, you aint buying a casa for less than $500k that is livable.

    So, I've been pushing Waco.

Anybody have any info on the culture climate in Waco? Job climate? Any relevant, useful info is helpful.

They are doing something with bats. Has to be a registered/stamped approved bat now.

My sophmore year in high school was the last year Indiana high schools used wooden bats. I hit 11 home runs in 22 games as a sophomore. Thought I was the next Babe Ruth...! So wood bats would go yard....Just let the pitcher supply the power, make solid contact, good bat speed through the strike zone, and CRACK! Somewhere between Sophomore and junior years, I discovered girls, pot, cars, and partying... Sophomore year ended up being my best. I'm thinking one of those 4 led to the demise of my brilliant pro career...

Never did quite learn to like the DEEENK from a piece of aluminum pipe....

My senior year, we played Evansville Reitz ... and their super talented sophomore, a young Donnie Mattingly (Donnie Baseball! Yankee legend) He hit 6 dingers in a double header against us... It was our 10th game of the season. He already had 15 for the season by the time we were done.

We also played a team that year from northern Indiana at semi state...with a kid named Ron Kittle (later played for white sox) He hit a ball that may STILL be in the air somewhere, these 44 years later. . Pitcher could have caught it....Wasn't 5' off the ground when it went through the infield....and it just kept climbing....was still climbing when it cleared the center field fence. He could hit home runs with a broom handle. He had a swing modeled after Reggie Jackson....Long arms and a LOT of bat speed.

It was all those dang aluminum bats....

Yeah, I was good friends with, and played with a guy from Richmond who ended up with the Yankees a couple decades ago (Andy Brown, he didnt make a big splash). He refused to use metal bats, was a switch hitter and hit dingers on demand.

I was a power hitter myself, and could switch hit, but my swing was smooth and effortless.

We went to different high schools, and when we ended up matched up with them, I was chatting with him during warm ups and told him to hit some balls and then switch to the left side of the plate.

His high school home field was at a minor league team's stadium. McBride Field.

Halfway through his BP, he switched lefty and put a few balls over the trees in the park, behind the fence. The first one, my team basically gave up.....You could literally hear their souls withering away. Dude was good. He didnt even play in that game. lol! We still lost, by a lot.

Besides Mattingly and Kittle, I got to play against one more eventual pro. Walt Terrell, who pitched for the Mets and then the Tigers. Last I heard, he was the only pitcher in major league history to hit 2 grand slams in a game while he was with the Mets. That was in his rookie season. Mets actually used him as a pinch hitter. He'd hit balls that would clear the light poles in center field... When he made it to Detroit, he was one of Sparky Anderson's favorites. All I know is the last time I faced him in high school, the ball ended up in the parking lot beyond the right field fence!

Tomorrow's topic; How many touchdowns did you score in one game while at Polk High?
