I am in the market and have considered various trucks. I have never owned a truck, much less a Tacoma. All of these observations are based solely upon test drives.

I am a Toyota fan. My wife and I have owned several Toyotas. We have had positive experiences with these vehicles and, as a result, I have developed brand loyalty - or at least brand preference.

Due to this preference, I am looking at the Tacoma. Below are a couple of things I would like to see in a future Tacoma.

A short wheelbase model with the access cab and the shorter (5’) bed. This would be preferable for those seeking a nimbler truck for urban driving or a shorter wheelbase for off road. For Access cabs, I like the idea of a factory rear storage option in lieu of the seats (which I find virtually useless for seating passengers).

A long wheelbase model that would increase the size of the back seat. Of the trucks I have looked at, the Tacoma has the least amount of rear leg room in the double cab (and, to me, it is uncomfortable). I hope the rear leg room would be increased so that an adult could comfortably sit in the rear seat for an extended time.

A new or reworked powertrain to increase the truck’s performance. Of the truck’s I have driven, the Tacoma feels the slowest off the line and has the lowest payload and towing capacity. I also do not understand the benefits the 4-cylinder option. In the spirit of simplifying, I would not be disappointed if the smaller engine were discontinued.

Just my thoughts. I have been lurking for a while now and I thought I would add my 2 cents.

My Tacoma is an urban warrior. The heaviest thing I'll ever have in the bed is a load of mulch, and I don't tow anything. I have a weekend sports car, so I have no need for speed with the Tacoma. I had never owned a pickup before my Tacoma, and had never owned a Toyota either. I have the 4-banger, and it suits my needs perfectly. And, as long as the motor is made in Japan, that's what'll be in my Tacoma's.

The size is actually pretty good for a mid-size truck. I'm 100% city/highway with lots of tight parking spots and I don't have any trouble.
I agree on the seat sizing. Back seats could use a little more room.

I dont think size is a problem either. my wife and 2 kids (3 year old and 10 month old) go everywhere in it. no problems. Is it tight? a little. I downsized from a ram 1500.
I just throw everything now in the bed with my trifold cover and thats made my quality of life so much better however.

The thing on my wish list right now would be more low end torque.

The Truck is damn near the perfect size, the addition of more low end torque and a grab handle on the drivers side A Pillar would do it for me.

I’m good. They nailed it, as far as I’m concerned.

I might even get a reduction in the insurance I pay. As soon as they saw those beadlocks my rates went up due to fire risk.

I'd be willing to sacrifice some towing capacity for payload capacity without the looks of a ute for all models.

Have TSS optional. Have driven a few rentals with it and absolutely hate it.

I'd like to see the center console open from the driver's side like they did in the 2nd gen's. Can I get an amen?
