With our group that hunts pheasants in SD if you shoot a hen instead of a rooster your punishment is you have to slam one as fast as you can. Helps keep the newbies from shooting hens, that is for sure.

In the MidWest and other parts of the US it is snow geese and light geese, AKA sky carp. They are causing quite the problem in the Arctic and other places. Friends of mine will fill the bed of a pickup truck with them and ask if I want some. No thanks.

The Giant Canadian Geese was thought to be extinct and someone discovered the last remaining flock here where I live in Mn. back in the 50's IIRC. Now they are everywhere, they started a breeding and recovery program for them. As the name implies they are the largest sub species of geese and people come here from all over to hunt them. You can tell when you shoot a Giant Goose because they hit the ground with a lot louder thud than normal Canadian's.

They were captured before they could fly and released here too. They return to nest where they learned to fly, so they say. Now, they are a nuisance.

Things are good! We’re having a warm and rainy winter this year, but I suppose that just means I use less fuel when I smoke. You up north or down south for a bit?

I have not, but the geese are welcome so long as they don’t bring Clamato with them.

Yikes. And the storms are on their way again, looking at the weather map.

    Do any barbecue up there?

I’m familiar. Most resident geese in the US stem from that, and trap and transfer programs early on, as Curt noted below. We have snow geese all over SE PA right now as well. They are a potential issue at neatby airports, and hit the winter wheat pretty hard when there is no snow cover. Thankfully the wheat generally recovers, depending on when it’s hit, and how hard.
Ha, they no longer do that. They captured them when they molted as well. Now, they are captured and not relocated. If you know what i mean.
I do some work with resident Canada geese.

The only person that understands. There is no such thing as a Canadian goose, (they don’t have nationality). It’s a Canada goose, or geese.

People say that all the time. It used to bother me, but i let it go these days. Worst example, my ornithology professor said it in class.

I have never smoked a goose!

Honestly, almost "too good". Usually im trying to slow it down, or push it a little to keep on schedule. But the fire has been cooperating and ive been able to keep it within 25° all night with a 100% hand fed fire. Im pretty excited, but have also learned enough to know when things are going this good, something is about to go at least slightly wrong ;)
