You would be hard pressed to find a greater group of guys...and they are proud Kentuckians to boot.

The wife and I were planning a round trip through Kentucky this Summer visit a few distilleries and mainly Buffalo Trace. We were shooting for May or late September. (before school's let out or after they restart) The wife is off work a week this month March 18-24. And their's talk of her being off again a week in April due to slow business at her job.
We are considering going ahead and going the week of March 18 because it's a done deal where the shutdown in April might not happen.
The only problem I see might be the weather in March. I think it would also be less crowded in March/April.
You guys see any other Pro's or Con's of going in March-April?

If you do end up doing Buffalo Trace, try to get the Hard Hat Tour. It's much more in depth (from an acquaintance that works there). As for tasting, you'll probably only get ER10 and standard BT there. Maybe the Wheatley Vodka as well. And after that, pop on down US 60 and hit Woodford Reserve (about 20 minutes from BT). I've only heard kind of meh things about the tour, but the place itself is beautiful. And then you might as well drive through downtown Versailles (there's a nice bourbon bar next to the courthouse) and out US 62 to Wild Turkey (20 minutes from WR). Another beautiful area and recently renovated with a good tour. And I know two friends who've done the tour and met Jimmy Russell himself. Apparently it's not that uncommon for him to be hanging by the gift shop. He'll sign bottles and have a nice chat. After leaving you can continue on 62 into Lawrenceburg and pick up US 127 N to get back to I-64 W to Louisville. It's about a 50 minute drive to downtown Louisville from WT.

Lived in the area 22 years and haven't done a single tour (shame...). I plan to finally hit a few this spring if it ever quits raining. So I can't give you reviews on the tours themselves...I just know that if you make it as far as Frankfort, WR and WT aren't much farther along. You'd probably have to make two days of that though...BT, WR, and WT one day and the Louisville ones another.

In theory, the weather in March/April should be perfect and the bigger crowds don't tend to hit until May/June. However, the weather has sucked the last two years. Last year winter hung on through March and then the switch flipped to summer. This year, it's been nonstop rain with winter finally showing up (like last year) just as we should be starting to hit spring.

Told myself I wouldn't buy any more bottles for a while UNLESS they were cask strength or Islay... and then this sumbitch popped up and checked both boxes.

It's definitely on my list of best whiskies I've tried so far in 2019. I really need to find the 10yo CS and compare the two.

Yanno, I've had a redemption I got 8 mos ago. I cracked and tried it when I got it wasn't a fan. Left it for 8 mos and, still don't enjoy it. I'm thinking I don't enjoy blends...

    You like obviously yes?

Hmmm..is it a blend? There is no blend statement on the bottle. The rye is the same mash bill as bulliet, Dickel, and others at 95 percent rye. I prefer the high rye bourbon out of the two.

I've been looking at that Macallan 12 Sherry Oak since trying it in an airport bar. Good stuff. I was at Total Wine today with it in my hand but decided not to. Just bought a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta and my cabinet is pretty full. Next empty gets replaced by that one. Or the Macallan Double. Or Triple. So many choices!
