I've been using Amsoil PI for about 5 years now. Every 4000 miles. It seems to work for me. No eyewatering increases in anything but this truck has had high quality gas since it was new a regular maintenance with the best oils. I had an old ("73") car it worked wonders for in just one tank which is why I started using it again. The fact of the matter is, you don't need fuel or oil additives if you use top tier gas and top quality oil with regular changes. I just do it for insurance.

No I'm not an Amsoil dealer.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Most anything you buy off the shelf and pour into your tank is a waste of money these days. Good gas already has cleansers in it.

How do you know your injectors are bad or clogged? Only way to know for sure is to pull them and have them bench tested.

I like gum out regane that has p.e.a in it. I think it's the polyethermine stuff the guy above me posted about. You can buy it at parts stores. I also put marvel mystery oil in mine occasionally it's about $4 for a quart but I'm not sure if it does much.

I had a motorcycle with a stumble because I let it set around without riding it. I put 1/4 bottle of gum out regane in with 2 or 3 gallons of gas and rose it for 45 mins and it cleaned out the trash whatever from the carburetor and ran smooth afterwards.
Also I would try to run gas from Chevron or shell. It supposed to have the most and best additives in it.

With that many miles it would probably be a good idea to replace the O2 sensors. Not sure about the 4 cyl. but I think you have an AF upstream and an O2 downstream.

My truck was 8 years, 85k and my engine had a rough idle. New denso (aftermarket) sensors from Rock Auto got the idle smooth and gained me a couple MPGs back. Now I keep the old sensors if I want to run a high concentration cleaner/sea foam the vacuum lines to keep the new ones from any contamination.

I use Berryman B-12 Chemtool fuel treatment, it usually smooths thing out. Just put some in an FZ-09 Yamaha motorcycle that has sat for a few week and had a hesitation coming of idle. It was gone after 2 or 3 minute from starting it, I've always had good luck with it, but if this does not work, it's likely needing to be worked on. You can get it a Walmart or auto parts stores and it's not expensive.

I agree somewhat about ALWAYS using a "top tier" gas, but there are some I wonder about, like ARCO. Simply hanging up a sign proves nothing. I have always used Chevron, even if it is the most expensive in the area. (I am old enough to remember 27 cent gas in Texas!). Now, once a year, I add a bottle of Chevron Techron to the gas tank, although I really don't need to. It is just habit. To an old, used vehicle, I would start with mechanical cleanings/repairs first (fuel rails, injectors, plugs, etc) followed by several repeated uses of additives for the fuel tank and lines. I recall one fellow who just "knew" it was a bad fuel problem, verified by shade tree mechanics who were happy to take his money. When he finally listened to experience, he found out his timing belt/chain had jumped out a couple of slots. Oh well!

I'm with you, except for the 27 cent a gallon part. When I started driving gas was $4. Lol.

But what's $10 a year? It sure as hell beats taking off old crudy parts and dealing with other issues that may rise removing said parts.

It’s honestly more effective than using fuel additives and less work than cleaning them. I learned this from experience on my old 3rz

So I’m no fan of snake oils but!
I do use “top tier” gas I do use a quality oil with low mileage ocis.
Thought I was doing pretty well at keeping her up.
Shit still gets dirty maybe I have other issues unsure as of now but here is a before and after pic
of #4 cylinder on my 2.7 at 175k that I’ve owned since it had 40k.
Truck was running fine had a cel for o2 sensor cleaned it and it came back.
Replaced both o2 and a/f scoped both sides of cat white and bright!
Did plugs after and scoped cylinders and saw this:eek:.

Not sure if the other snake oils work this well but this one definitely did something!
If it removed this much buildup from the top of the piston gotta think it’s cleaning or destroying everything else on its journey.

For me, 175k is very high mileage; for others, not so much. I suppose if I had the money I too would simply put in new parts, but I don't - so I don't. Jeffch above waited too long and apparently did not add a cleaner often enough to avoid such a problem (?). Once in a while cleaner additives exist because of a demand. Even though I love Chevron fuel, it is not a do all/end all product.

You can also run water/meth injection. :notsure:That’ll steam clean your throttle body, valves, and intake manifold. They’ll look like new under the scope.
