Tire fit?

I get it now. Tw already has a few LEO members that have been great and helpful. So this is kind of that good cop, bad cop deal. Tw is due for the the dick cop and here he is.

 

we tinted a 3rd Gen TRD Sport like mine a few weeks back. He was on stock suspension and running 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks on 17x9 with -12mm offset and his rubbed on the cab mount.

I have 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s on 17x7 with 4mm offset and I finally got mine to rub tonight. but I did turn into a angle drive pretty swiftly. my truck is on stock Sport suspension as well.

As for you Joe. Maybe if you had taken it down a notch and premised your statement with “ they may rub during full compression while traversing rough terrain...” etc. things wouldn’t have gone as they did. I’m not a mind reader. You said they would rub. I told you mine didn’t because I replaced my stock tires and they don’t. Of course, you then changed the goal post and had to throw in the mall crawler bullshit, but I’m the asshole. Ok.

Some guys went on to calmly explain in a reasonable manner that you meant they may rub under violent compression. To those guys, thank you for clarifying, again, I’m not a mind reader and didn’t know since he didn’t say and his buddies piled on in like manner.

I could respond to all the rest of the bullshit but why waste my time. I’ve been ass deep in a kitchen remodel and I’m tired. And this is the internet Ive come to expect anyway. I still like this site and think there’s a lot to learn here.

Again, to all the reasonable adults who don’t act like high school kids and think their “seniority” on a website means something thanks again.

Forgive the tones in the responses in this thread. Its gets tire some and frustrating addressing some of the accidental inaccuracies in posts. Many people try hard to keep the information on this site as accurate as possible, not just for the users of this site, but for the whole internet. Try googling anything about your Tacoma and see how many hits from TW you get.

Now as far as the rubbing issue goes, cmon man, ease up. The truck is designed from the factory to be able to fully articulate without the tire ever rubbing. So when you say your tires absolutely do not rub anywhere, it is assumed you mean for the entire suspension travel. I'm not sure you offroad very often, because there is nothing "violent" about articulating, its typically pretty slow.

You have been here long enough to know this forum focuses pretty heavily on 4×4s, off roading and mods that enhance off road capabilities. I mean, just look at the banner at the top of the page, it's a modded 4x4 in the snowy woods.

Anyways, my point is, a simple "well I never tried locking and stuffing the tires before, but under the conditions I drive there hasn't been any rubbing" would have ended this before it escalated.

And Joe, we know that you're right. But demanding a video out of the guy really was just inciting an argument. We can do better then this.

I‘m pretty much through here and will just apologize for my part in this. As I stated before, I have not had any issues whatsoever but then again I had no idea I had to go all Dukes of Hazard in order fully quantify my post.

I appreciate your tone but seriously, I’ve had multiple people tell me privately how douchey this place can get because of the egos. I can see what they mean. That’s neither here nor there. To answer your question, yes I’ve done a lot of serious offroading. I’m willing to bet more than a lot of the people who’ve chimed in here put together. What I don’t know about is the mechanical/equipment aspect. I just drove whatever they gave me and made the best of it. I’ll admit that freely. I came here to learn more about that and merely attempted to contribute something to the site when I saw the post. I guess I’ll just keep reading and keep my mouth shut from now on. The high school crowd can carry on with their dog pile. I’m done now.

I do however thank you for being the adult in the room. I look forward to seeing and learning more from your posts...

Well since you are experienced with off roading (wrong assumption on my part, and I'm sorry) you know that every vehicle is different. The tacomas really were not designed to run oversized tires. It may be the biggest draw back of the tacoma, considering how well they perform off road. A lot of off road parks these days cater heavily to "rock crawlers" and require large amount of suspension articulation. Ripping lugs off tires, or ripping parts off your truck from the tires rubbing is not ideal. If you want to learn a few things about fitting oversized tires on our 3rd gens while still having full articulation, you should check out @JoeCOVA 's write up on the subject. I learned a bit myself.

I do encourage you to keep posting, just realize sparks can fly pretty quickly on subject like tires, oil, lifts, and engine/transmission feel. But it is always in our best interest to diffuse the situation rather than letting it escalate. Don't let it get to you.

Glad I got to run that trail once before they closed it. Gatekeeper changed my expectations of what my prerunner was capable of.

Despite what this site claims, 265/70/17 WILL rub on an unmodified TRD sport.
