Remove that lower rectangular cover and there should be a hidden screw under.

 

I would bet that the rectangular shaped "cap" pops off maybe with a small screwdriver or pocket knife and you will find a screw or bolt under it.

Trying to install a TOYOTA TACOMA ATTIC from Blue Ridge Overland Gear. No instruction on how to remove and THEN Put Back little plastic pieces.

I suggest you check yourself (pdxmonkeyboy) with comments about jobs, dry cleaning and payments. You dont know donkey about me.

Underneath or on one of the sides should be a little indent. Use a automotive trim remover to slide it in there and it will pop off. Then unbolt, just be careful that square doesn’t go flying somewhere I bet that’s 30 bucks at the dealer lol.

 

how would the hole in the headliner be covered (in the event of just removing the hook)?

 

I think this is where personal creativity would be exercised.

If it were me, I would put the hooks back in to cover the hole.

 

@njssurf if you traced the hole left I bet you could have someone 3d print you a nice fill piece for really cheap. Could tidy it up after. Food for thought

 

I just put my Tacoma attic in two days ago. It’s a pain in the ass as there is no screw.

Pop the plastic cover off, squeeze the ends of the metal clips together and the clip and hook will both come out. (Sometimes the clip stays and the hook comes out, just wiggle it around).

To reinstall:
The attic fabric should dig snugly around the plastic to hold it in place. Place the back of the plastic hook first into the hole in the headliner followed by the metal clip into the hole in the hook from the front to the back.

Then the outer plastic for the hook should spread the metal clip against the roof as you insert it into place in the hook.

Ask if you have more questions. It’s a pain in the ass.

Final note: ER doctors don’t wear dry cleaning to work.

 

Also... the hook is still usable with the Tacoma attic installed.

I use it for all kinds of stuff when on trips. But, I keep an “icky bag” in it at all times.










Not to derail the point of the thread...


So, the Icky Bag is a semi waterproof bag (it isn’t a dry bag, and will leak by design to avoid mildew). It has two openings. You put disgusting clothing articles in the top opening and zip it shut. Muddy, bloody, or stained with a sour cherry beer (see stain on mine) it holds the articles and keeps them from soiling the rest of your stuff.

When you get home the bottom unzips and your stuff is contained in a mesh bag for you to then hose down and or wash the articles while they are still in the bag.

It’s pretty nice and mine has been through a few wash cycles.

I had a growler full of cherry sour beer that wasn’t sealed properly at the brewery blow up on my back seat. It soaked through a few shirts I bought there and I didn’t catch it for about 12 hours of driving. This whole mess was on TOP of the icky bag and that’s the only stain it got. I’ve had bloody scrubs in it, muddy shoes, oily gloves, and all other kinds of things in it.

Taking the hooks off is a PITA! It’s a crap design in my opinion. Hard to get the square caps off without breaking the tabs that hold them in. And the integrity of the hook relies on the cap being secure. I’m sure there’s a technique to getting them off without breaking, but I didn’t figure it out. Had to buy 1 replacement (50% success rate) - the whole hook was $23 at the dealer.

 

Agreed. Luckily I didn’t break anything. I don’t know why they didn’t go with a bolt. It must make things easier in the factory somehow.
