My wife drives the truck 3-4 days per week for her commute. I can tell she has trouble getting it into reverse.

The gate, or whatever you want to call the resistance you have to overcome to get into R, seems really tight on our truck.

Is there any way you can loosen this up?

    It loosens up over time.

I think it’s too easy to hit r, if it doesn’t get easier I would check with dealer.

The resistance is fairly high, I usually find myself kind of smacking the lever rather than just pushing it. I wouldn't want it to be any easier as I have found reverse at a stop light once or twice.

When engaging reverse, have her try it from the neutral position... To do this, simply pull it out of 1st and let go of the shift lever, it will center to nuetral. Then, as mentioned above, a light slap to the left will quickly knock it past the safety gate, and up into reverse it will go. Things don't move well when attempting 1st straight to reverse.

Its just a ball and spring and I beleive some of these 3rd gen trucks had a tsb about this issue .
The tsb involved replacing the ball and spring on one side of the shift lever .
With this being said , that was back in 2016 when the RC-62 was introduced . The 2019 " should " have the upgraded part unless Aisn Seki is like every other manufacturer and uses up the old parts before they use the upgraded parts

Good, hopefully it will resolve itself.

I tried to show her how to kind of 'throw' it over from neutral with some momentum. She like to lean over with her shift hand close to her chest and use her core to get it into R. Whatever works I guess.

IMHO, I could never accidentally go into R in. It's pretty dang right. You would need to have the strength of a bear with the strength of 2 bears not to notice the gate.

Mine has just the right amount of resistance. If its too difficult Id have it checked out at your local dealership.

I'll give it a few months to see if it breaks in. The wife hasn't complained. Just hope she's not putting on a tough face while she's actually struggling with it.

The dealer told me to double tap it into reverse. It seems to do the trick.
