    Hey Guys,

New member. Currently driving a car and finally making the switch to a truck. Pretty excited. Looking for a 2019 TRD off road with a 6spd manual tranny. The resale value on these things are insane. Doesn't seem to make sense to buy used really. Any advice while buying this bad boy? Warranties etc? I am pretty much sold on the manual unless I can find a really good argument to go automatic, which I have not found yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's a manual. You'll love it if you've driven manual trucks before. It's a blast and one of the best MT trucks I've owned

    And welcome to TW

Thank you, fellas. Glad to be here. Extended test drive sounds like a good idea. Never thought to do that.

Also, if you test it on a highway, keep it in 3rd until 60mph. Don't shift too early

I snagged my '09 in '13 from FL with 38k miles for $22k after searching for MONTHS (truck spent most of it's life in West SC from what I gathered on the history). MT's are hard to find if you do look for used. They are gone at the snap of a finger. Plus, I was stationed in Illinois at the time. Had to ship it from Miami to just outside of St. Louis (only about $650). My interest was in grey but settled for blue just so I wouldn't have another sold out from underneath me!

You don't have to buy the warranty from the original dealer you can buy from any Toyota dealer and you can get it anytime before the factory expires. If you plan on keeping it for a long time it's a good idea to get the factory warranty. Look around, ask around people have got them for around $1000 depending on how long and how many miles you get. If you are committed to keeping the truck to 100,000 or 120,000 miles and the dealer can give you a good price on the warranty and it makes sense for you to include it in your financing then go ahead and do it, otherwise pass and shop around.

for the extended test drive I would recommend taking it up to 75 on the highway (that is the interstate speed limit out here between cities) I would leave the radio off too if you are coming from a car you might be shocked how loud the tire and wind noise is in a truck. For the city portion of your test drive take it over some railroad crossings if you can, potholes, crappy roads. I found most dealers would let me take the truck out on my own which is much better than making small talk with a salesman. I think you will be surprised how the Tacoma handles the city, it switches lanes quickly, it actually sits down in the turns pretty well for a truck, and you don't have to slow down for anything you can just plow over the crappy roads.

The offroad is the way to go in my opinion the bilstein shocks are a worthy upgrade over the hitachi's in the sport and sr5. I could feel the difference.
