Stripping Painted Fender Flares

Ive seen members having there painted fender flares re-painted to matte black and Ive seen them wrapped with matte black. Has anyone tried stripping the factory paint off? They have be the black unpainted version under the factory paint? This is a video using stripper to remove paint off of quad fenders. Think it would work for the flares?

They're black, but...
The Offroad/Pro flares have a texture, the others are smooth; different part numbers.

 

Looks to me like he was working with a plastic piece. Give it a try and let us know!

Maybe try it on the front bumper valance first. The area that goes under the front bumper that cant be seen from eye level.

 

You are right on this, there are 2 different part numbers for the sport vs offroad flares.

Im not actually doing it. Picked up a new Off_Road over the weekend. Wasn't sure if I was gonna go with a Sport or Off-Road.

But I did find this product and it sounds like it could work.

Yeah I used that stuff to strip the paint off of a vw bettle.

 

Has anyone used this stuff on factory paint? I would assume it's much different than spray paint.

 

I have to ask why strip the factory paint off? Why not wet sand and repaint matte or satin black?

 

Personally, I want the matte finish from the base flares, but I have a second gen truck. I stumbled upon this thread so asked here.

 

I agree, plus if you don't like the look you can go back to the painted.

 

I can’t even wipe a little wax across the unpainted flare on mine without discoloring it, willing to bet paint remover will do a number to the plastic.

 

I'm going to bump this up rather than make a new thread. I got some fender flares, not for the Tacoma, and the previous owner painted them black with I believe automotive paint. I would like to get back the factory finish which is a textured black. Any chance of doing this without having to send it all down which will also ruin the factory finish? Will any of those fancy sprays work?
