These are the most recent records I have of diff service. My question is how did they hear tire noise with it running in the air?

Just had tsb 0011-18 done on my truck. Feels amazing. Took it in as soon as I read about this tab. Showed them a copy of it told them it goes away in 4wd. Tech took it for a test drive, mimicked the complaint warrantied the work. Fyi I have 5100s and 887s on 285s.

I recently brought this to my dealers attention. Waited until my 16k service(canada) and they came back telling me there was no issue or no noise.

Hopped in my truck and there was 1 more km on the ODO from when I dropped it off. They didn't even take it out. Time to switch dealers!

I have a 2016 TRD OR Access Cab
Bought used at 54k. It had a 2" Level kit on it pucks in the front and blocks in the back with General Grabber AT2 235/85/16
Noticed the noise shortly after buying and was bummed
Finally took it to the dealer and rode with the mechanic and got the TSB for a new Diff
The dealer wanted to have it back again after snow was off the streets and check it again. Did that and they said that the vibe was in my tires and not the needle. I argued that cyclical isn't matching tire speed and to talk to the mechanic
They then wanted it back and put a set of new stock tires wheels on and confirmed the vibe was still there
Parts are ordered and I will update on how the ride is after
I want then to take the level off as its not really helping anything other than looking cool
5100's after my warranty at 120k

Yes but won’t the needle bearing just go out again?

I have not been in here all that much lately and missed this TSB until poking around in here this AM.

My 2016, started making this noice a few months ago. I took it in today. It's funny because I tested it with and without 4WH and I explained essentially the TSB explanation but didn't know about the TSB. Anyway, I asked about the ECGS bushings and my service guy said the new part includes all bushings. Can't wait to get it back tomorrow and see the difference.

Also not so bad to get a new front diff at 36K miles!!

Thanks Toyota and Groove Service at Groove Toyota for taking care of me!

This makes me wonder whether they have diffs going around with old bearing. Was glad they just did my bearing and not whole diff

No, the new diff has a different bearing design that is likely similar to ecgs so it wont go out again

From what I'm gathering, yes that seems to be the case. So rather than fix the old, they swap it out with the new design. I'm cool with that, all free...

Just had my truck I the dealership for the tsb. Thought they where going to give me the run around but they didn’t. They ordered the new diff. For me. Should be in a few days. I was told they had a few 4 runners in for the same problem. So glad I’m getting this done.

I'm so glad I had this TSB done! I put a 1 inch lift on my truck and had the needle bearing problem. Now it rides great and didn't cost me anything.

I was about to go trade my truck in before I found this thread! My dealership said there’s no recall for my truck and act like they don’t know what I’m talking about. Just put a one inch spacer in front last week and immediately got this noise. Frustrating but now I know there’s hope! Looking for a new dealership first thing in the morning. Anyone in the middle Tennessee area? I live in Smyrna... wondering if anyone has already found a good dealership to work with this on.

Just bring them the tsb and make them ride with you. Demonstrate how it goes away in 4x4

Could someone elaborate what “cyclical vibration” is?

Has anyone else that had the differential replaced experiencing worse noise? I had mine done about 6 weeks ago, replaced the front diff, and now the vibration is worse. I can feel it particularly bad at 45-50mph on left-hand turns. Goes away in 4wd high. Brand new tires.
