What is a bed box swing??? Do you mean a bed extender??? If so, then yes, a bed extender can be used with the bed stiffeners.

OK, now are you talking about the 90 degree angled stiffeners that bolt onto the floor and sides??? ATH, Total Chaos, etc??

If so, they might be a go. Though, you may want to see TACOMA specific pics of this box mounted first.

If that isn't what you are talking about, I am sorry, and I will shut the hell up!

Looks like both products use the same area. Doesn’t look like they would be compatible.

Keep in mind they’ll cover up the bed storage. I’ve put in ammo cans on the wheel wells and they’re cheap like $25-$35 each

I would definitely try to get pics of the box mounted in a Tacoma prior to deciding if they would work or not. Grossomotto has what looks to be Total Chaos stiffeners (I think), but they are a bit hard to see with all the black coloration. I have the Total Chaos ones too, and am not sure how much room there would be toward the front side of them to mount a hinge for the tool box though. If it isn't raining tomorrow, I will try to gets some pics from the front for a better view of the available space for a possible hinge.

I appreciate the info. If you can take some pictures I would greatly appreciate it.
I have another question not related but I’m not very tech savvy. Am I responding to ur individual post or how do I do it on this forum. This forum is a little different than my hunting forum. Lol! Thanks for the info.

To respond to an individual instead of the open thread.....click on the person's name under their avatar (ex: PacoDevo for me) then you will get another screen.....click on 'start a conversation'. At that point, you will be dealing with that individual only. Will try to get pics in a bit!

Here's a few pics of my bed stiffeners......either the boxes or stiffeners likely would need modified to work. Not sure if the stiffeners can be switched from side to side or not. If so, would allow for easier attachment of hinge over top of stiffener.IMGP1601.jpg IMGP1602.jpg

Ok. That gives me a lot better view and close up of what I’m working with. So with the stiffeners u can still use the extender also. Pretty cool. I appreciate the pictures. I’ll probably have some more questions for you. Lol! If I bug you just tell me to shut up. Lol! I do appreciate you taking the time and sending those. This will help a lot.

Not a problem......the bed extender needs modified (narrowed) to use and spacers need to be added on each side to clear the stiffeners. There is a write up on here somewhere on how to do it. Sorry, but I don't recall by whom or it's exact title to search for it,

I was thinking along the same lines as you were. Additional holes and possibly a little longer hardware. If you end up doing it let me know. I have a cap on mine and I like to utilize my space so the swing boxes would be ideal. But with all that weight I need the channel stiffners.

I live my swinging box storage. I keep my compressor and tire patch kit in it as well as gloves and some other repair kits.

I have bed stiffeners coming in the mail today. It looks like the hinge lines up exactly where the stiffener would be installed.

I’ll be troubleshooting today and post what I find.

Looking at the last photo it seems the four fasteners go through the hinge bed and into the sheet metal. It seems like this would do a fairly good job of supporting the bed side. But if you have any welding/metal working skill you could weld a piece to the top of the hinge plate and bend it to fit and using the two bolts above to secure the top. It doesn't look like the additional metal at the top would interfere with the cover.

I’ll bet @ragofabrication or another of the stiffener guys could probably fab up a single combo unit if they had a hinge to work from as a guide. It looks like the hinge is separate from the box. I don’t know how cost effective it would be though.

ED10AAF5-350B-438C-A432-516EA5A87707.jpg After install today- I came to the conclusion that they aren’t compatible as they come.

A good amount of re-fab would have to be done. Way outta my league! I would definitely buy any custom piece someone came up with...

Anyone want to buy my swinging over well storage container?!
