Well...the OGT is in the hands of the Stealership and they are already charging me $300 just to let them hold the key.

If they figure out what's wrong with her and don't screw me with a sandpaper condom to fix it, it'll be worth it though.

I'm also considering going ahead and ordering the tars and wheels I want to put on Natty, but running them on the OGT until Interco introduces the 35s I want. I felt like I was driving the truck from Mythbusters with the square tires on the way to the stealership today. Those LTBs are getting almost undriveable.

Edit: oh, and the OGT seems so small now. Natty definitely sits significantly higher, even with smaller tires.

 

Got the OGT back today. My credit card is smoking, but she's idling better than she has in about 3 years. On the way home I even thought she had a little more pep, but then I realized after I got home, it was because the ride was unusually smooth. Guess the tires were warm and it hadn't been sitting long enough to form flat spots.

Why is it that worn down 265/75R16s on 7" wheels look as tall or taller than worn down 33x13.50s on 8" wide wheels? The T4R is definitely taller than the OGT though. It's probably going to be ridiculous on 33x12.50R16s on 8" wheels.

That looks oddly familiar, although usually it's the other end broken. Is that Dom's T4R?

 

Yup, Dom's. Lower ball joint bolts fell out/broke off which caused the axle to break and brake line to get cut.

 

Well God damn.

 

Hate to say it but it's a known issue. When I replaced the suspension on Natty, I bought new 10.8 10mm flange head bolts with serrations on the underside of the flange and then used blue locktite and a torque wrench to tighten them down to spec, which is only 43 ft/lbs. Basically the same thing I did with the OGT and I haven't have that happen to me...yet. (knocking on wood) That said, I bought the wrong length bolts. The OGT has 35mm long ones and Natty's are only 30mm. Still felt like plenty of thread engagement, but I'm going to put 35mm long ones in the outboard side blind holes on Natty eventually.

I'm also selfishly relieved that it was a ball joint problem not a CV axle because I was seeing visions of my future with the OGT on 35s...still snapping CVs even without the locker.

 

couldn't you rig some safety wire to the bolts to keep them from moving out?
