I’ll sleep like a baby now! And I decided to go back and delete all my posts since the other guy did too. That way it’s like it never happened.

When you do this I can't come in, after the fact, and stir the pot again....I'm so disappointed in both of you.

Nothing crazy. The backstory is this guy built his own rear bumper, and for recovery points was just gonna weld these on the Face of it. We had to explain that was a terrible idea and was very unsafe. His argument was that he uses them to tie down loads on big rigs, which obviously isn’t the same.

Haha I know right. I wanted to respond and be like “well if you’ve been fabricating for so long, you should understand a couple inches of weld won’t hold up.” Instead I just let it be and didn’t respond. He already said he’s not gonna run them

Did some little odds and ends to the truck today.

    • Installed hi lift onto prinsu
    • Put new power cord on fridge
    • Emptied bed and reorganized recovery gear
    • Took the handle off the shovel so I don’t accidentally scrape it off road

House hunting went shitty today. New area from the rest and was not happy. Back to the original area tomorrow after my crawlers and coffee meet in the morning.

That’s a bummer. When my wife drove south the other week to check out a potential rental house, I made sure she measured the garage. Exactly 7’ so I should be able to scrape in.

We carpooled with the realtor today. Last night I had to measure the truck height and length wise because usually we take the truck and I just eye it up.

In his defense look at the back end of a big rig wrecker they use those types of shackles for pulling big rigs out and stuff. Also used for safety chains in case the thing comes off the wheel lift. They also use that style a lot in heavy equipment as recovery and shackle points when hauling. If you get them big enough and are able to get a good solid weld with the metal they are welded to just as strong then you should be fine. With the std 3/16 probably not the best idea.

The usual way they are attached is to a plate. Then a slot or hole is cut for the shackle to protrude and the plate welded on the inside. Sometimes like on heavy equipment they are face welded.

I ended up redoing it with a 1” steel spacer I wrapped in heat shrink so it looks nicer.
