Went to your website to check out the canopy. Wasn’t able to locate it with your search bar. What price are you charging for these?

We charge a flat rate of $250 flat rate to install and wire the canopy.

Anyone local running one of these on a third gen? I want to take a look in person.

Will this trick with the gfc work for dog ventilation?

Yes, but in all honesty the gap between the tailgate and AluCab back door is big enough to put your hand through, so you might not even need the "trick"

I have an AluCab and, while functional, I've had a lot of issues with leaks and with the paddle latches freezing closed in our winter weather.

Here's the gap, seen from the outside:

I'm fairly certain that this issue is because the canopy is sold to fit the 2nd and 3rd gen, but the beds aren't the same. 3rd gen bed rails and tailgate are all the same height while 2nd gens aren't.

As for leaks... The rubber trim pieces holding the glass windows in leak at the seams where they joined the rubber trim pieces. About 1/2 of the roof rack track fasteners leaked. I also had issues with leaks between the panels they used to build the canopy where edges were bonded together. Tom at Adventure Ready offered to take a look at it, but in reality it would have cost me much more in fuel than the tube of RTV that I used to fix the vast majority of leaks.

I don't think that they get rain in South Africa like they get here.

Ah! I have a third gen. Crazy about all the other leaks. Shouldn't have to deal with that for $3k.

I agree. But, on the flip side, I've been able to fix the majority of issues with a tube of RTV. I'm not sure if I'd buy it over again, but then again, I am a glutton for punishment. Fwiw, GFC was working on a replacement latch that they said would improve cold weather operation. GFC uses the same latches and their replacement would be a drop in replacement. I lost track of whether they've come up with something or not. Spring is almost here though, so I probably won't think about it til next winter.

Alucab updated the canopy for the third gen. The newer versions of the canopy sit flush with the top of the bed and tailgate. No more gap.

I'm pretty sure they only have one style and they use it for both gens. It just fits better on the third gen. I know that the gaps would be a lot less significant if my bedrails were flush all the way around like on the 3rd gen.

The 2nd Gen Canopy is actually the Hilux canopy. For the 3rd Gen they built it specifically for the Tacoma. The fit is spot on, and they have also updated the latches so no more freezing shut! I do have a short bed, and long bed in stock!

    Hey Jon,

You still have that short bed in stock? Going to be coming through Issaquah this weekend and would love to take a look at the short bed canopy if it's still around.

We do. It's still crated, but I'll have them un-box it and have it ready for you to look at!
