I can't really give you much 1st hand info since I have a MT. From what I have seen, AT guys are still much better off with the tune. One thing to keep in mind is that if the "off the shelf" tune isn't working for you, Mat is going to be offering custom tuning.

Congrats. I like 87 Performance, saves $ at the pump and power where I live, low to mid range. Like the tip in too. But have fun finding the tune for you.

I will try to make this simple, there are multiple ECU calibrations for the third gens. Mat has made 87,91,93 base/economy and performance tunes available for all versions of the ecu's (some still pending latest 1.05 update release)

It appears that almost every truck reacts differently to each tune variation and driver perspective/preferences varies considerably.

I would venture that is what is causing all the confusion, everyone drives and uses their trucks differently as well as mods and environmental aspects. People also have varying expectations of what this tune can or cannot do regarding shifting/performance,some reasonable and others outright unrealistic.
That said,I would venture 99% positive feedback from those that have tuned their trucks. Just pick a tune from the tune menu that is compatible with your current ECU version and octane/performance level desired and give it a try...

I thought it was ETC and S where GL was active. My bad.

It is. But GL tune in D with ECT will upshift but not downshift.

Tried the base 87 and that tune sucks balls and felt flat all around. Went back to 87 p/g but I prefer the torque of the 91 p/g over 87. Not sure how some are enjoying the ride of a base tune???

Well you got me there. I didn’t listen to the whole thing but once I stopped it checked how long it was then replied I was probably about 3 min 5 sec deep.. lol

Got your glasses on gramps? Never used ECT except for gear lock. Also mat already mentioned it has to do with Toyotas shift logic. He mentioned he plans to fix later this year. :burp:

Don't know if its a lot but I do know that the difference in my truck between 87 and 89 octane is very noticeable. After a 1/2 tank of 89, drivability is completely different (improved) and mileage has jumped from 17.3 to 20.6 So its just my guess that it was a combination of knock related ignition retarding compounded by the Atkinson cycle that created a loss in power and resulted in the transmission trying to compensate by constantly downshifting.

Little update on my tsb/techstream/overflashng debacle. Been about 200 miles on 04b04 1.05 87 base and my truck is pretty much back. Weird lag/surge shifting is almost completely gone and smooth. It was rough for about 75 miles, mpg at 1 point was 13 mpg. Now back up to 18.8mpg and rising.
As far as 87 base goes, I love this tune. Fuel efficient, I get almost 0 gear hunting issues (unless I'm soft on the pedal, which has been discussed), and when I hit ECT this thing moves! I definitley find myself driving more aggressive bc I can now.
Thanks for the tunes @OVTune !

Second that. 87 base is very nice. Smooth shifting, conquers hills without wheezing and goes nose to nose with beemers...
Perhaps to add a wee of tip..

1.05 91 octane performance with 33 inch tires and my truck weighs 5200 pounds. On the first tank of gas the tip in was head jerking even when trying to feather the throttle. Just started the second tank of gas and either it's settling down or my pedal control is getting better.

I third that - everything said above, I am on also 04B04 base 87, am averaging 20mpg (amazing right?). I am happy and done, mothballed my laptop and enjoying my 'new' the ride! All who ponder buying this tune or not, all i can say is that if it weren't for this tune I would have traded in this truck long ago, any tune is 10x better than the stock truck, but 87 base just happens to be my personal preference and consider it, for my driving style, to be spot on.
