What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Kicker Hideaway under passenger seat in my access cab. Gain set at 1 out of 11, bass volume knob at 50% and this lil guy is hitting hard. And by hard I mean a nice crisp bass bump, not the vehicle vibrating bass you hear when “that guy” pulls up next to you. I love music and I wanted to experience music as it’s meant to me be heard. The Kicker Hideaway is the SHIT! Oh, and the ladies will not be complaining....

 

you dont need to cut the stock pipe. loosen the tranny mount and jack up the back of the tranny. you'll have enough room to get it out, thats how i did mine

 

What kind of jack did you use? I have a bottle jack and a forklift.

 

just a floor jack under the tail shaft. bottle jack would work if it reaches

 

And all you did was disconnect the four bolts at the trans crossmember? It just pivots on the motor mounts I’m assuming?

 

Yes. You don’t need to go very high. So linkages are all good

Is that the most difficult part? Or is the actually trying to squeeze the headers in?

 

Hardest part was getting the old manifold bolts loose for me. But I live in the rust belt and man did I have some rust. Other than that it was like a 4-5 hr job

 

Those lock nuts they use do NOT want to back off. I tried to remove my front cat a while back. Rounded one but (stupid 12 point) and broke another clean off on the the top flange. Just left it like that. I had to put my foot on the tire with a breaker bar and use a ton of force and they wouldn’t budge. Weren’t even rusty. That’s what I’m worried about.

 

None broke on me just make sure your using. A good 6 point socket so you don’t round them off. The studs will come out of the head. Spray the bolts down with some penetrant oil (or brake fluid, works awesome For some reason, just don’t let it get on paint)

 

I am curious how you mounted it?

To the bottom of the seat or to the cab body or what?

 

I used velcro, underside of Kicker to carpet.
The unit isn’t going anywhere, kung fu death grip needed to peel it up. It came with screws to mount to floor, no need in my opinion, unless you’re so inclined.

Kung fu death grip, velcro it, it isn’t going anywhere. Not enough, bolt to floor with included hardware.

 

Just do the Tundra swap. Better braking is well worth it. This makes me glad I did it already on my truck BEFORE I install coilovers and end up chewing them up.

Do you have the model number on these? I’m about to completely redo my audio and this would be a nice addition.

 

No problemo! I should add, I’m running a stock head unit with stock speakers. I have the stock tweeters as well. The reason I never upgraded was because I was always content with what my stock system put out, I think Toyota did a hell of a job on their audio setups, at least on the 04 models. If you have an upgraded unit/speakers you’ll probably want to amp up your gain. For me, 1 out of 11 is more than enough, I might experiment a bit, once the unit breaks in, but I’m thrilled by the quality of sound, as well as the build. It’s a heavy little brick, a lot of love went into this thing.

 

if an avalanche includes getting underneath snow-raking over a foot off the roof of the house then yes. Only a couple blizzards in the truck is all here in NE and once in Wisconsin in late 90s
