I just purchased a Savage 17 HMR with the accutrigger and a bull barrel and I am now in the market for a scope to put on it. I'm looking for a relatively high power scope with at least a 40mm objective. I know there are a lot out there, but I'm looking for some recommendations to check out. Thanks for any help!

Interesting, I haven't heard of that brand, but the reviews are great. Too bad it's on backorder.

to add: for such a small caliber you wont need as fancy a scope as you would on a high powerd rifle, the .17's dont have any kick and wont be knocking your scope out of sight. My friend had a BSA that was like a 4-12x40 and was great for prairie dog hunting

this would be a great scope for your gun. the 50mm end would allow for a big sight picture and allow a lot of light in making it easier to see at dawn/dusk.

BSA has the sweet .17, it's made for that cartridge.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
    Good scope, excellent vendor.
I've done like 6 or 7 deals with SWFA.
FYI, that 50mm bell is a big one.
Stay away from BSA..might as well burn your money.
You can always mount this scope on a more serious rifle.
Don't skimp on optics....you can't shoot what you can't see.
Spend some time on the Opticstalk forum sponsored by SWFA.
You'll learn Vortex is becoming a respected player in the industry.
I doubt you can do better for that price range.

Thanks for the link! I've been checking out some on Natchezss.com , which is another great shooters site. I'm not really looking to put anything too terribly expensive on it as it's only a $235 gun. That Nikon looks good, might have to check it out.

the only thing with the 50mm scopes is that you have to get taller rings and some people dont like that. it has never bothered me though.

I went with a Konuspro 3-12x50. Worked well at the range to sight it in but I have not gotten it out in the field yet...

Not to jack the thread, but what's the effective range on the .17HMR? I always slapped a cheap Weaver 3-9x40 on my 10/22 Whistle pig guns and never felt underscoped.
