i'd be in! i scored one of the very last ATJ's with the TRD logo, and love it, but if i could get slimmer and smaller i'd be all over it!

Gotta show my M/T and SR5 bros some love!!
As much as I wanted to do a flip or OTF style Key.. it just wasn't in the cards for keeping it a small compact package. I wanted to flow with the same design as the minimalist and they just looked too bulky. :sorry:
But here's a quick design I came up with for all you guys with caveman keys:rofl:

    Criticism welcomed

Just to show you how close we are pushing the limits on space, both blue highlighted parts are the stock PCB and Transponder.

Is it possible to make the key slide out? Similar to a box cutter. I know you said space is tight, just throwing out an idea that you might have missed.

I think you missed him answering that in his post you quoted. OTF means Out The Front, which is much like a box cutter.

If he chose to make a key that flipped or slid out the case would wind up larger than the OEM key. He is going for the minimum size possible.

What about a hinge or something that allowed the key to fold to the back, outside of the fob? At least it would be out of the way and still compact as far as the fob part goes. May not be feasible and you might have already tried it, but figured I'd toss the idea out there just in case.

Something like this maybe, without the indention into the housing though:

Thank you. Yes, I did miss that. I should have gone with my assumption that he tried everything first.

Another factor in making it swing/hinge/flip/etc is the stock metal key insert does not have much meat on the end to attach or bolt it to anything. What would be ideal is if I had a blank key with the end having a mounting hole, but then the customer would have to get the new key re-cut. Still brainstorming..

I have the AJT one now, it's holding up well, scratched but it's taken a beating and not broke. I do like the idea of a keyless one, I tend to leave my keys disconnected from the fob most of the time anyway. My only issue the the AJT was the color match for inferno was wayyyy off, but it might not be doable really.

I’m working closely with my molding factory to replicate the stock colors. They are confident they can color match very close(metallics are a different story)

    A little more refined...

Keeping things simple.. It uses the same metal inserts as the AUTO key. So it's the same width.. but actually a lot shorter.(minus key)

If the metallic part of SSM is too hard to match in plastic I would be ok with a close enough solid color match. I bet the micro texture will give it a look similar to the paint anyways. Or I may just spring for a contrasting color like voodoo blue or a red to match my TRD bedside decals.

Do you have an idea of what that would cost or if it is possible? Wouldn’t mind getting a key cut of that made your design work better.

I’m always pushing the envelope and bettering my designs. Which is why I want to take on this challenge of a flip style(kinda like the VW keys). Guess we’ll just have to wait and see:D

Is the new SR5 key smaller than the OEM?
