Just got my ‘05 back from its frame swap. Truck turned 175k on the way home from the dealer with the new frame. Only out of pocket for me was $67 for new U-bolts. The invoice I signed showed me $16,408.95 that the dealer charged Toyota. Not to mention the 6k bill that enterprise rental charged them for my Nissan Frontier rental. Now I have a great truck with a new frame!! Good job Toyota!!

Out of curiosity, did you originally purchase your ‘05 from a dealer or a private sale? I’m just wondering if private sales still have the same leverage as dealer purchased Tacoma’s when it comes to this issue.

    Cheers

I bought mine from a private party out of state(myself in CO the previous owner in NM). I had no issues whatsoever the only things that mattered were the VIN and the inspection. The original reason I took my truck in was for the leaf spring recall for new springs. Knowing the Jan 31 deadline was coming up the next month I made sure they inspected it while it was in. Mine had no holes in the frame at all it was just delaminating pretty bad and they wouldn’t even let me take it home. I had a rental almost immediately.

Just had my 05 frame replaced at Toyota of Knoxville. I had it checked 2 years ago by another dealer and it passed but my warranty was about to expire so had it rechecked and it failed. It took right at three months to get it back. The invoice didn’t have an amounts on it and I would not let them work on my truck again. They didn’t hook up my fog light wiring, front wheel well liner not fastened, the trim piece on top of the radiator was missing five clips and it was leaking break fluid from the splitter under the drivers door.

Sounds like Toyota has a dealership problem. Hit or miss quality and alot of overcharging.

I thought that my dealer did a good job when I first picked my truck up from the frame replacement. The following day the brakes had the symptoms of a warped rotor. They were less than 6 months old. They over tightened the lug nuts and warped the rotor. I couldn’t get the wheel off. The bed was misaligned. The license plate lights weren’t hooked up.The brake line hanger was unattached. The worst thing that was driving me crazy was that I couldn’t locate a crunching sound when turning. I replaced the cab mount bushings . 2 bolts were bent and this made the bushings useless. Still had the noise... finally figured it out last week. The dealership put the wheel well liner on wrong. The liner was on the outside of the mud flap causing the tire to hit the plastic liner..

HA! What do you know... I wasted a lot of time with them when I was looking to buy. I did what I thought was prudent- emails and texts back and forth with a saleswoman spelling out just what I wanted (2018 SR) and what I wanted to pay, finance rate, everything covered. She said yes they have them and the deal I wanted would be no problem.

So I make an appointment to see her, I take a day and drive there, that saleswoman was 'called away on an emergency' and they know nothing about what I was talking to her about. So I start out with another salesman, who is very new, and it's apparent they have no 2018s and only 1 2019 SR which they're trying to steer me towards, and I test drive it. We start negotiating and they are nowhere close to what the first saleswoman said would be 'no problem' getting. Then the sales manager comes out, he's very gruff and insulting and says 'take it or leave it'. I walk out, having wasted much of a Saturday.

Yeah. I wound up buying from a dealer up north, the first one I visited. Got an even better deal than what Shore promised me then reneged on.

From the hundreds of new and old rotten frames they had stored on their property you would have thought they could handle a frame swap a little better than they did for you. I figure they couldn't have done all those frame swaps on their own, other dealers, (or Toyota regional) without so much storage space probably store their frames at Shore.

So I found a pretty significant nugget of info on accident this morning in regards to the frame replacement. Was trying to find the body mount rubbers for my bed and came across this...

    http://media.fixed-ops.com/Toy_Campaigns/E0D.pdf

There are instructions and part numbers for everything involved.

They do a lot of frame replacements at Shore... 2 techs working on a truck. Finish in a day and a half... it would not be bad if they weren’t sloppy when putting them back together. Billing Toyota for coolant that they never change and other things makes it a cash cow for them.

Deadline for my 2005 was January 31, 2019. Had it inspected (failed) on January 22, 2019. Waiting for the frame to arrive sometime next month. Nothing like waiting til the last minute.

I thought I read on here it was 11 years. That would mean 07-08s are expiring.

Congrats. My first gen rotted through during the warranty period but my 05 looks good :fingerscrossed:

That's what I had originally thought too. The first notification said, "the latter of 12 years from Date of First Use or 1 year from date of final approval (5/21/17). The updated notification states, "the latter of 12 years from Date of First Use or January 31, 2019" Seems to be a lot of conflicting information. Glad I actually looked at the new notice. :)

Anyone have any issues with a dealership not wanting to use parts you supplied for replacement during the frame job?
I want to have shocks/struts replaced while they have it apart but don't want to pay dealership for parts.

Mine fought me a little. Ended up agreeing on $100 labor charge. I replaced front coil assemblies, rear springs shocks and cab mounts. The cab mounts were the contested part for some reason.
