Modified exhaust.. yes or no?

Yeah I plan on making my build page after install. Ill get dyno readings and decibel level readings. Big thanks to @Roostfactor for the insane Y-Pipe. Go read his thread... Ill do an audio clip once I find a good foam covered microphone. I want it to be a quality recording so people can gauge the sound better.

 

Definitely respect that decision.. 75% of the sound clips on Youtube seem like they were recorded with a motorola razr.

 

No different than stock. I do get a buzz now from exhaust fumes if I stand by the tailgate when it's warming up.

 

Has anyone tried a 70 series flowmaster? It seems like it might be a good OEM alternative. Fairly low profile, pretty quiet, flowmaster quality

 

I was looking at 60 and 70 series and couldn't find any sound clips on YouTube

For those of you with the after axle dump, any idea on how much more/if any additional exhaust fumes make it into the bed? I have a shell and sometimes keep the dog back there with the windows open to the cab. Don't want to expose us to any additional exhaust than we need...

Honestly, that's why I haven't done it. I might be paranoid, but it just isn't worth it to me.

 

I had my 96 ZR2 dumped right before the axle... do not do that. Tons of drone in the cabin and I could see some soot accumulate up underneath the bed and exhaust smell. I was in high school and it it was my first build. I would run a tailpipe. Post axle might not be as bad or go out the side maybe.

Took a ride with @TacoGoonin today in his truck. I was thoroughly impressed!!!! He's running URD LT headers, y-pipe, and cat back. Very nice sounding and not obnoxious when opened up nor droney. I personally think this is more the way to go. On a side James' exhaust set up is quieter than @FadedComa exhaust at idle, so I would much prefer him starting his truck up in the weee hours of the morning on a wheeling trip

 

If it helps anyone, been running this exhaust (my video in OP) for almost 4 year now and I would definitely buy it again. This exhaust gives a nice deep tone while not being overly loud or drony. Most of the drone occurs around 1500 rpm but over 2000 it really opens up and lets out a pretty good tone for this v6.

I used to have a flow master 10 series on my old tacoma and that thing was a rice canon

 

I guess I just don't get it. Spending money modding the exhaust on a 1GR-FE. I do 100% get modding your Tacoma. I spend thousands of hours trying mods and stupid amounts of money on parts, but the goal is always for a gain of some sort. The exhaust on a TRD is as good as it gets from the factory. That's been established. It would be different if you were spending the time and effort and funds to try to design a new exhaust system and it didn't work. You put good time, effort, money towards a good cause. But spending good time, effort, money to un-invent the wheel?

If it's a sound issue, the cost of modding the exhaust could almost pay for one good subwoofer. Save the money, save up, buy at least one more sub, mid's and hi's for the doors, couple amps, head unit and processor/active crossover. Have something that you really enjoy every day

How is it at like 80 mph (interstate speeds)?

 

All things considered I'm 24 so keep that in mind. Nothing you can't have a regular conversation over... I don't think the thought of "this exhaust is annoying/too loud" has ever crossed my mind. If you want a little more noise and a deeper tone over stock this is the exhaust for you. If you like catless honda's with a cherry bomb, it's a no go

touch'e bro. At 24 I did a whole lot of stuff "just cuz" also. Guess I'm getting old
