My wife does camping like this... "I need an air mattress... Can we find a better one? I'm cold, I need a warmer sleeping bag. The sleeping bag can't fit the baby in it, we need a bigger one. Is there a bed we can buy? The cot is too stiff." Germans don't use tents to camp. They use trailers and cabins calling that camping. I'm comfortable if I'm not shivering or wet, so it's a learning curve for me lol

 

You got to talk with folks like @riz_atx , and others who have this stuff. Or look into a cool teardrop that is a fortune on wheels, but cool as shit!

Same here, camping means a hike of at least six miles and living out of your pack for a few days. Rig wise, I prefer more off-road capability and sleeping in a tent or under a tarp is good for me. Beach runs mean I get a hotel, nothing more uncomfortable than trying to sleep in 90 degree weather covered in sand.

 

I've been researching for years. I mainly have been getting advice from guys that run in southern Africa and Australia for long, long, long-long-long voyages and it's pretty unanimous on what they pick. It just doesn't meet my daily needs, so no serious overland mods are coming anytime soon. Just off-road improvement and better individual support gear like expedient bathing material, food supplies and comfort gear

Edit: as an example I need to buy a new sleeping bag for myself as I turned in my surplus army sleeping bag, and I also need to test out my 6-person tent with full camping gear to ensure that my family's equipment will fit and temperatures will be adequate for us.
