So, has anyone found a company that makes an extended range fuel tank for the 1st gens or not? It wouldn’t be very hard to get another tank under there, but then you have to worry about the evap system and everything. I’d like to see a complete replacement tank. Any information updated?
For everyone who asks why... hurricane Florence put this idea in my head. Finding gas was a problem for around two weeks. Long lines when you found it.

Not trying to bash, but legitimately seeking an answer: What's the advantage of a bigger tank over Jerry Cans? My thought has always been that the cans are better because you still have gas in the event you hole your main tank.

Good point, but think about my reasoning. It was a disaster area. Peoples generators were getting stolen, plus gas and other things. Thinking about it like that, it would be a great idea for it to be in the tank. Jerry cans are always an option though

Hmm, that's something I didn't consider... That said if someone wants your gas badly enough, they're going to get it. Do the 1st gens have a locking filler flap?

Jerry cans are great, but so is a extra tank. There are +/- to each. I would use a spare tank if it’s cost effective, if not and I can carry a couple of cans outside I would do that.

Let say you carry 2 cans, you have to store and secure, takes up space that you might use for other stuff if they are not mounted outside. Fuel smell if gas gets on the can. Storage of filler.

Extra tank, COST (not cheap), mount once and then fill and done as needed, if it’s like the Downey, protected by the tire or up high enough to clear. Don’t have to worry about a fuel spray from expansion when opening the can. Just easier

    Any other thoughts?

I think some had the filler flap that locked, I’m not sure. Most people don’t know that on most gas tanks (at least on fords) the rollover valve inside the tank actually doubles as an anti siphoning device. So the lock will protect you from someone putting something in your tank, but not necessarily getting it out, as the siphon hose won’t get to the gasoline to begin with. I also agree with you that if they want it bad enough, they will knock a hole in the tank and get it anyway. A lock just keeps honest people honest.

I emailed long range automotive for giggles, they claim on their website that they can custom build any tank, and they may not have my truck listed. Never hurts to ask a question

Holy shit that thing is fucking huge! 42 extra gallons?? Once a month fill ups....

I still want to put a spare tank in the same area, where the spare tire used to go. I'm thinking more along the lines of maybe max 20 gallons extra tho.

Yeah I know he said later that in retrospect he would do the smaller tank so it didn't hang as low and wasn't so heavy. Plus he could still more than double the fuel capacity.

Yeah, I think an 18 to 20 gallon tank in that area would be ideal for fit and clearance. The guy that did the F150 tank has a nice setup and the tank is the right size, I'm just not too keen on the filler neck location. Needs to be higher or protected in the bed like the suburban one.

I found a slim and tall one once that was only 7'' wide and 18'' tall I think. Be perfect for in the bed behind the cab. Make the 6' bed easier to deal with too.

In the bed wouldn't be bad with the right size tank. Definitely well protected that way.

Dude, I like the idea of using an old keg for a pressurized shower, that's brilliant!
