Play the video in my signature. I’m sure we scratched plenty of rocks. This is also “on” the trail. Now if one of those men/ladies there that day went over off the trail and carved “3rd gen Tacoma’s suck” I wouldn’t wheel with them again.

Not because of what they wrote, but where they wrote it.

    See the difference?

Your actions put on a scar on the rock. His actions put a scar on the rock. He did it because he's a self-centered d-bag. We do it because it is part of our hobby.

Our activity - our trucks - damage the earth. Fact. We are reasonable and prudent in the manner that we do it, but none the less - our hobby damages nature. We make more of an impact than mountain bikers, hikers, dirt bike riders, etc.

This guy is a douche no doubt, but some of you are so high on the high horse that you sound more like a hemp wearing, REI shopping van-lifer than a member of the motorized offroad community.

This of course does not apply for all the mall crawlers - they are free to look down their noses at anyone with scars on their skids/sliders.

I run stickies, so no. Most of the trails in Moab are ice cream runs for me, where as it would be difficult for you. This is also “on” the trail as the defacing was “off” the trail.

Missing the point hoss. That’s why I don’t go to Moab, it isn’t a challenge for me. It’s like taking a trophy truck grocery shopping.

I fail to see the correlation. Damage done to established trails is acceptable risk.

The whole tread lightly concept is to stay on established trails to minimize damage. Now, blazing new trails is met with as much resistance as if carving one’s IG handle into rock.

I feel like saying rock sliders is on par with this is a poor attempt at validating the action.

    100% agree.

But we must realize - the REI community looks at us the same way we look at this guy. "Why do you have to drive your truck there when you could just hike instead?"

I think the key everyone is missing is the concept of "intended use".

A trail is to be used as a trail. Off trail is not to be defaced
