I forget what years they came on... saw the thread a while ago, just swapping bigger rotors and calipers that were from a tundra / 4runner

The bigger rotors and such for a 2g taco are from the 4runner and require 17” wheels minimum.

The tundra brake upgrade is for the 1g Tacomas and 3g 4runner. The 2g tacoma already has these brakes from the factory. To upgrade from a 2g Tacoma to Tundra would be the brakes from a 07-17, it simply wont work for our trucks... plus requires 18” wheels... ewwwww

Ah, Gotcha, so ya I guess Id be doing the 4runner brake upgrade. Like I said been a while since I looked into it. I do remember it requires a 17'' wheel which I already have.

I’m the same way, but my post got me thinking of installing some RV type hatches. But I feel like Crow from MST3K...

    Hi all,
Thinking about picking up a Habitat for some family camping and mountain biking trips. I have a few questions you guys might be able to help with on what I would need to do to prepare my 2018 OR DCLB:
    1. Suspension: is anyone running Icon RXT leafs? It looks like most here (this thread) prefer the deavers option. Are air bags worth it?
    2. Attaching bikes: how well does a bike slide into the bed with the tent open? Any pictures out there? If I put bikes on the outside, would a swing arm be necessary to access the bed? I'm guessing a roof rack (for bikes) is not an option?
    3. Ventilation: I have 2 dogs and was planing on leaving them in the bed for longer drives. Has anyone with a cab window tried to cool the bed area by leaving the window open? Does it work or just heat up the cab area?
    4. Anything else you recommend to get before adding one of these to your taco?

Thanks in advance. I love the space this system offers over the wedge campers. Looks to me like the way to go with over 2 people.

Best setup I think I've seen for bikes with the habitat is this swing out one.

    1. The Icom NXTs setup for 1.125 lift @ 600lbs looks like a workable option. Air bags are always an option. Prolly one of the cheapest and most flexible systems. Will you be building out interior, towing a trailer, or hauling anything else particularly heavy?

    2. My bicycle was too tall to put inside the habitat upright. If your bike rack angles down enough to open your tailgate fully you could leave them attached without a swing out. Be a bit of a pain I'd think climbing in and out of the truck bed though, imho. Roof is an option, but you'd have to take them off to open the Habitat.

    3. No clue, I don't have ANY windows!

    4. Other than springs or airbags, I can't think of any must haves. Just depends on what you want to do with it. Let us know and ask us anything you can think of!

Looks like a great way to do it. Looks like it's integrated in a custom bumper swing out. Any idea who makes that bumper?

    Thanks for the great feedback.

    1. Those leaf sound good to me. I will eventually be building out the interior but not right away. No plans for hauling anything. The long bed is already long enough for my style.

    2. Yeah, l'd like to avoid climbing over the bikes to get in the bed. I figure my bike is too tall as well but with the front wheel off and a dropper post, it might work. I guess it exactly like a camper shell for this but I'm curious if any one has a better design?

    1. Running Dakar with had leaf and first overload flipped, and Timbrens. I’m installing bags when the truck comes out of storage next month. But I’m also packing 2-weeks worth for a family of 4.

    2. We just toss the kids’ bikes in the back, wheels and all. But then again their are a touch smaller than what you’re riding.

    3. No windows or vents in mine. This was discussed a few pages back.

    4. Get yours color matched... worth every penny.

2-week worth of supplies for 4: I see the need for air bags. Which ones are you getting?

Still working the plan. Likely going to be Firestone’s with a balancing line/valve in between and a set of the dystar cups.

    But we will see.

Got the ARB 2500 awning on today! (8 foot)
    0310191342a.jpg

Made mounts out of 3x5 aluminum tube cut at 45 degree angle, or thereabouts. 6 rivnuts into the Habitat in each one.
    0310191558c.jpg

Front mount is simple flat steel bent into an L. Uses one of the existing bolts and added one rivnut.

And here is with the awning room. This thing is awesome.

Im a multi-purpose kinda guy, why are we not utilizing awnings as solar charging? why are they not dual purpose?

My concerns for using bags was the articulation. The Timbrens do their best to kill it. I stared flipping through the threads on pirate and found the idea of a balancing valve.

Also, does the Firestone kit place the bag directly over the stock bumpstop pad, or does it shift forward/aft? with that, what about bumps?

Weight? Reliability? How tight can you roll solar panels?

Not saying that wouldn't be awesome. 8x8 solar would be quite a lot of power!

Do you guys deploy in one spot for multiple days?

I’ve not needed even an extra battery to support my truck nor breaking out the solar charger I carry for emergencies. But I also start and drive the truck every day.

My wife MUCH prefers staying in one spot for multiple days. I've never done the drive> setup camp> sleep> tear down camp> drive > repeat. Will be doing a bit of this in July for the first time though.
