I noticed VERY slight sludge residue on mine as well. I think my driving habits will warrant OCI to be changed as well to around 7k as I make a lot of short trips and like to get the RPMs up. I’m no expert but I would suspect that if there’s sludge in other parts in the engine already which in the long run can/will cause premature failures.

My oil doesn't look like that after 10K miles. It's dark, but it doesn't look like what you are seeing. I have also been sending samples to Blackstone (you can click the link in my sig). It looks like something is in the oil though. I'd change it and send a sample to Blackstone and see what it is.

    No.

I’ve run two vehicles past 250k miles in the past and did 10k oil changes. Never had an issue before. Oil was dark but never any sludge.

My dipstick a few minutes ago. About 68,000 miles on the engine. About 8,000 miles on the oil. I didn't wipe on the pull. After wipe it looks the same, but the level is correct.

Typically that appearance usually indicates short trips.... during which oil doesn't heat up enough to evaporate moisture in the crankcase.
Been using 10k mile intervals with full synthetic for Quite awhile in my FJ and oil
Definitely gets dirty but not that frothy appearance. Good luck!

Try again.... I'm having a hard time getting the camera to focus on the dipstick.

That oil still looks dirty to me (Retired mechanic) even if you look past the grit - I change mine myself and the biggest problem I have is checking the level - It is so clean it is hard to see on dipstick. If I were you, I would consider doing your own services or find an honest mechanic. It is not hard and you know for sure it was done correctly. There is a video on You-Tube that had cameras on several vehicles that claims over 40% of garages do not change the oil/filter or put in the wrong oil (Cheaper mineral as opposed to synthetic. I let my truck drain for at least 1/2 hour to get the most old oil out as opposed to garages that are in a hurry and let it drain for a few minutes. While the oil is draining you can use the time to check the tire pressures, lube door latches and brake cables, wipers and lights etc.

Good to see everyone else’s dipstick is a pain in the ass as far checking the oil level goes.

 Following....interested to see what the dealer says. I’m gonna put my money on “normal characteristic of the vehicle” or “cannot replicate issue.” Lol

You know that even if he didn't get a catch can, that condensation would be getting removed through the factory installed PCV system right? Or even just through heating up the engine.

Yea send samples. You can ask for a baseline too or send a virgin sample. Make sure to get all the right tests that check for different things. For all the stuff.

A friend of mine was going through a divorce and they had all kinds of problems. I told him to get an oil catch can. He did and they have been happy ever since. No divorce, no money problems, kids are doing good in school and both of them lost 30 lbs and look great! Amazing.

My oil at 5k (Mobile 1 Full Synth) comes out blacker than black. But Blackstone Labs hasn't seen any issues with my last two samples.

Honestly. I'd trust the Toyota Engineers before I'd trust the schmuck at the dealer who "supposedly" did my oil change.

    I do my own.

$28. They send you the sample bottle for free and then you pay them to get your results.
