Hmm, maybe. How much useable hydrogen does this contraption actually make? I didn't see any references to a kickstarted so it maybe legitimate.

And reading the comments gave me eye cancer. OMG, there are some SERIOUSLY stupid posts there.

Yeah, it didn't say much. Often these articles promote tech that is not ready for prime time, just looking for funding for more R&D.

Still, the idea of creating hydrogen from solar rays that can be used to create power anytime is intriguing.

I'm not so worried about a properly designed high pressure tank. (that said better storage is better) My thoughts go to the energy cost required to compress the gas for storage. My bet is by the time the gas is compressed to 400 bar the energy equation is on the negative side.

It takes a very specific kind of compressor for hydrogen as well, on top of the energy needed for it. There was an incident not too long ago where some people used the wrong compressor for hydrogen and caused an explosion.

though it's encouraging that people are still looking towards it as a green energy source.

I for one agree with her on the decision.

It's ironic that without the internet we probably would have never known about this.

I mentor a FIRST team. This is my second year doing it. For those who don't know, FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The idea is to get kids interested in technology and engineering. There are three levels, starting with Lego league for younger kids, progressing to Tech challenge (simple robots) to Robotic challenge which is multi purpose robots. This is NOT battle bots, but more "accomplish a task or series of tasks, while staying within specific parameters". It is very competitive, and teams from around the world go to regional matches to play against one another. Our team, #1511 is a perennial favorite, with a 15 year history of being in the top teams year after year.

This weekend is the local regional at RIT. If you happen to be in the area, stop in to see some really cool robots (think Mars Lander type of thing) put through their paces by high school kids. Some very smart and highly motivated high school kids, many of whom will go on to be scientists and engineers.

I've seen those competitions in person and they give me great hope for the future. Those kids and their mentors are awesome!

Got invited to a Society of Women Engineers dinner / job fair a little while back, despite being a man...and an accountant

Anyways, gotta say, some of the projects that these college age kids are working on make me feel very small in my accomplishments. One that stood out to me, between leading a team to combat Zika virus in Ghana and being the sorority president, is graduating with a doctorate in vortice physics and going to work for Boeing on some advance research team, making far more money than I do in the process.

Really impressed with the work and goals that some individuals can accomplish with a nudge from the right people.
