Anyone want to help me replace a fuel filter & pump?
Like Fri,Sat, or Sun this weekend?

That’s what the 1st gen forum people think it is.

Not an expensive part, but hard to get to-unless you lift off the bed- need people.

Or have the local mechanic fix it?

 

You're only an hour away. I can lend a hand if need be.

 

You got air and impact stuff? Plenty of tools.
I can imagine the bed bolts might give you problems.

 

Only socket & box wrenches & a few others (basic stuff)

No impact or air tools.

 

I can probably help if all you need are some extra hands, but I bring pretty much nothing to the table in regards to mechanical knowledge.

Except batteries and windshield wipers. I can change those out all day long.

 

Parts (pump & filter- about $110 on Amazon (Toyota/Denso)

The 1st gen forum estimates 400-500 for a shop to do it.

That is, or course, assumng fuel pump/filter is thd problem ...

 

When the Miata’s fuel pump was going, it was “stuttering” in corners.

Nope- I do work in the driveway or under a shade tree.

Not being totally sure it WAS the fuel pump, I will just risk the mechanic
They estimated 150-200 for labor, plus parts.

I was going to swap back to the Miata for the next few days anyways, now the rain broke.

Dang, too bad it’s for a DCSB. That’s a great price.

 

There are 4. 2 are in the exhaust manifolds just before the cats and 2 in the y pipe close to where it bolts to the manifolds

 

Just a note, while ones from an 05 and 09 look interchangeable, the wire length is different because on newer models they changed the location of the bung on the pipe.

 

I messaged him and asked about keys.
Says it's nearly new...but idk about that.
To bad I don't have a frame lying around, would make a nice pull behind OR camper.

Mount a frame & axle to make a trailer.

 

Generally a fuel pump doesn’t just quit while running, it’s possible, but not normal. Check fuses, it may have gotten to the point it was drawing a lot of amps and blew fuse.
BUT ! Before you buy anything, spray carb cleaner in throttle body while someone is cranking it over, that will at least verify if you have a fuel or spark issue.
It’ll start and maybe run on carb cleaner for a second or 3 if it’s a fuel issue
