Sooo while my tacoma is parked and undergoing fiberglass plastic surgery i picked up something. Serendipitously checking craigslist i found a fzj80 Priced at $2500, bought it the next day for 2 grand. Shes rough around the edges but thats what i wanted. I had been casually perusing craigslist for about 4 years for one of these cheap and beat up.
Paint=ruined
Every corner= damaged
Every door=dented
Every strutt=weak
Tires=worn out
Front seats =fuuuuked
Fender flares=broken and missing
Both bumpers=bent, damaged
Carpet=salvageable
Frame=clean for age, no rust
Engine=solid
Trans=little clunky

The good is, seller thought it had a bad valve cover leak, but tightening down the bolts made the leak stop. And it already has ARB ome 2.5” lift coils and shocks.

Went wheeling saturday and diagnosed that the front axle will need rebuilding, tires are a must, and lockers would be nice one day. But it will last until the tacoma is on the road again.

Also, i really wanted to buy something i could not give a shit about spray painting. So i did that. And got a free passenger seat in cloth so only need a driver seat now.


I have some falken wildpeak at3w in 285/75r16 going on today.

Future plans:
Driver seat replace/ reupholster in cloth
Steam carpets
Buy driver side mirror
Rebuild front axle
Tighten up steering
ARB air compressor for airing up
Mount tacoma winch between frame rails

Maybes:
ARB lockers
Sliders
Roof rack

Should be a good beater and a fun project.
