I think they'll keep it since the Jeep Gladiator has it standard, at least according to their website.

 

Never had a burnt clutch odor, only 1.5 months driving my '19 TRDOR. Not even when my wife drives it.

 

Only 7k miles on my '18, but no burnt smell ever. But if it ever does happen it'll probably be in reverse on a hill. WTF were they thinking?

 

For me it's always on an incline with low traction. It can be almost impossible to "find" the clutch in that situation and I often realize I'm riding it before the catch point because I can't f'ing feel the catch point.

 

Know how you feel. This is the worst clutch I've ever owned (I've had about 20 cars and trucks with standards). I have almost 30k on it and still "kill" the engine from time to time. I believe it is a combination of iffy throttle response and poor clutch pedal feel. Still love my truck and can't think of anything I would rather be driving but that is one area that could be improved upon.

 

Totally agree with you on all counts! It is funny how sometimes I feel like I have to burn the clutch just because the engine doesn't want to kick in when I get on the throttle in situations where I really need throttle.

 

Maybe I missed it, but is the 2016 and newer 6spd a direct swap into a 2nd gen?

It's not the same, the 3rd Gen is much smoother. If I am not mistaken the 2nd Gen was RA-60 and 3rd is RA-62.

 

3rd Gen M/T for V6 is RC-62F.

Fully synchronized. 1-3 with triple cone sets. Butter.

No snout on input shaft, no pilot bearing in end of crank. Don't argue, it's true.

Reverse ratio is fucked though.

Oh and the accumulator is garbage. Get rid of that thing.

 

For these reasons ^^^ - especially the second line, what a joke that was - and I believe the 1-3 ratios are different as well. Never liked the splits on the 2nd gen 6spd.

If only they would have addressed that reverse gear ratio.

 

I think if the idle speed was just a little faster it may be more user friendly starting out. I may check that out.

 

The accumulator and throttle hang are the equivalent of the last high school party of your senior year getting busted... way to ruin a good time. I deleted the accumulator on my RA60 13 years back, and it will certainly happen asap on this RA62. Wish the throttle hang was that easy, not ready to flash this thing just yet.

 

The TSB tune (04B13) helped with rev hang enough that high RPM shifts were (more) natural. OVT has not really improved on it much, but that is a feature that he said that he will look into.

 

ive owned 2 slush box in my 30+ years of driving my 01 Subaru outback. Great lil commuter mobile that finally gave up the ghost with 170K on the odo. And a 78 blazer that was thrashed off road and died with 100K on it.

The rev hang is programmed intentionally for emissions control purposes. Apparently when letting off the throttle, the fuel mixture going into the engine becomes lean and will not burn off quickly enough producing harmful emissions. I also read somewhere that some rev hang helps prevent your engine oil from burning off aswell.

 

My truck was built in December of 2018, so I'll check and see if any of the TSB flashes are applicable.

Yes, I also read those were the reasons... very unfortunate!

 

For a 2018, Pre-TSB is 04A70. The TSB update will put you at 04A71. Either the OBD Fusion or Carista apps will tell you, as will TechStream.

It was 'thought' that Tacos built around August 2018 and on had the TSB applied on the line, but no one ever confirmed with a screenshot.
