I don't know about the burger joint, but my grandparents lived one mile from the end of runway 25. We'd sit out in the backyard and watch planes all day. It's funny how after about 3 days you didn't even notice the noise of a plane overhead every 2-3 minutes.

Family vacations to Inglewood were pretty scary for a country farm boy.

I love going places and riding on vintage commercial planes, but I try not to think the last time any real maintenance was done.

China is developing the Comac C919 airliner to compete directly with the 737 Max series. But I'm sure that has nothing to do with their grounding of the 737 Max 8's.

Great day flying after a couple weeks of poor weather. Was a busy day from a non towered airport. Most people are great with the radios and courteous with each other. The runway is wedged under C space and next to D, so things get tight when there is a lot of traffic. Was on a downwind departure from the pattern when we saw a Cirrus jet have a runway incursion with a 152 already on the runway. Same jet was on the radio after takeoff getting their IFR clearance when we noticed on the GPS they were right below us and climbing. Wagged the wings hard as there was no way we could get out of their way. He passed wing level on the left, pretty dang close. Bet he drives a BMW.

This guy was doing high speed low passes which was pretty neat to watch.

The super Corsair (F2G) was in the hanger today. Thats 3,000 radial horses there. Can you imagine a 21yr old being turned loose over the pacific in that? That's a 182 beside it to give you an idea of size.

    I love the Corsair.

Yeah, I'm always impressed by the size. This one is the only Super Corsair still flying.

I just retired after 31 years with American Eagle (now known as envoy air). Might try a corporate gig down the road. Enjoying doing nothing right now.20150316_204044.jpgIMG_DFW_July_2016_E145-1-e1500051681741-960x400.jpg

Nothing too exciting... maybe a little rust
I may have a bit of a biased opinion but it irks me how all these reports and the comments that go with them keep acting like there is some mystery design flaw that caused these planes to crash.

The cause of the Lion Air crash is now well understood to be the result of failures of both maintenance and pilot procedure. Boeing not providing enough information to pilots about the MCAS system functionality may be a contributing factor in the pilots not understanding what was going on but if they had followed the exact same procedure as the pilots on the previous flight the crash could have been prevented.

Without having any data at all on this crash I don't understand the big call to ground the fleet. It's entirely possible that having 2 of these planes go down is just an unfortunate statistical anomaly.

I'm not surprised in the least if Boeing is producing planes with problems and failing to inform users of them about the changes and problems with them. Par for course with them in my experience.

Gotta wait for the FDR info. Then they can start addressing design flaws or modify training worldwide if that's what is needed. Remember the United 73 in Colorado Springs? All kinds of crazy theories there. Then USair in Pittsburgh happens and they have no clue. Then Eastwind survives the event and they narrowed it down to the PCU. They modified the part and updated training. There was some talk about grounding them but that didn't happen.

I'm curious what the Atlas FDR has to say. I haven't heard much about the CVR other than the ending is "consistent with a loss of control".

It's because at this point, it is a manufactured crisis. No FDR data or any technical indications of malfunction, but they have to feed the 24/7 news cycle beast. Could there be an issue that is causing safety? Absolutely, given Boeing's track record the last 15-20 years. But when it is 2 of the most radically unsafe airline operations in the world that suffer accidents, and that isn't even remotely addressed in the discussion so far, that's what I take issue with.

I agree on the Atlas crash. That one got buried in the news almost immediately. As sad as it is, a cargo jet crashing has almost nobody on board. That doesn't really make it a story these days.
