So I have an OEM JBL setup in my DC.

Plan on purchasing a http://www.kenwoodusa.com/KDC-X994 to replace my OEM HU.

Instead of purchasing the aftermarket JBL AMP bypass wiring harness, what would be involved with removing the stock amp and replacing with an aftermarket one?

I want to do it right the first time, any advice is appreciated.

Are you replacing the factory speakers along with the amp? Also, are you planning to power the factory sub from the aftermarket amp?

I did not plan on replacing the factory speakers or speaker wire at this stage.

Yes I plan on powering the factory sub with the aftermarket amp.

    Thanks

In that case it would require tapping into the factory wiring behind the headunit and at the amp which would be a huge pain IMO. If I may ask, why do you want to replace the factory amp but keep the factory speakers?

Changing the speakers is obviously more money and the OEM speakers seem to acceptable. I would prefer them to be louder and I had hoped that the new HU and Amp would accomplish this. I was also thining if I could keep the OEM wiring it would make things much easier.

Do you have any idea of what kind of power the OEM JBL amp supplies to the speakers/sub?

What would you suggest for a guy like me who has the JBL system and wants to upgrade the HU and make the system louder/increase sound quality? Budget is $400 - $600 and I will be doing all the work.

I'm not sure how much power the JBL amp produces however adding more power to the factory speakers is not going to increase their sound quality and probably won't make them much louder either (the JBL amp can already pretty much push the factory speakers near their limit so you may just end up blowing them) Unfortunately the only way I can think of to increase sound quality and loudness is to replace the speakers and the amp. Since that may not be feasible for you at this time you may consider getting "better" speakers for "better" SQ first and then add a higher power amp later to increase the loudness.
