Looking to buy one eventually. Possibly a popup. Not too well versed in campers. Let’s see what you got and give some advice please.

popups are nice but it seems most they are just a stepping stone for a travel trailer...

we had a quicksilver popup for a year and really liked it but it sucked putting it up and down especially if it was wet out.. then you have to put it up toi dry out as soon as ya get home to make sure you don't get any mold. wife wanted our own full bathroom so we bought a travel trailer.. lots easier to load and don't have to set it all up when ya get somewhere. back in,lever it and plug it in..

Nice! Yeah I was thinking an actual camper would be nicer to have. Certainly more expensive too though. How does the truck handle towing one that size?

yea more expensive but worth it in many ways. they aren't for everyone though. used popup or trailer is probably the way to go.. if you are just getting into it a used popup may be the ticket. can usually get them pretty cheap. if ya like it then ya can upgrade to a trailer and probably not lose maybe break even on the popup..

great. towed it 10 hours home when we bought it and did 10 hours each way to maine last year.. never gets scary or anything.. good brake controller and a good weight distributing hitch... shitty MPH but thats par for the course..

here is the pop up we had. used to tow it with an outback...

It depends on what you want in a camper. do you want all the bells and whistles? A company called Taxa Outdoors makes a limitted line of campers and one off road trailer that are all well engineered and different degrees of size and amenities. We opted for the smallest camper the Tiger Moth. For us, it's perfect. It is more like tent camping in a hard sided tent which you can store all your stuff in when not camping. We started wth the base model as I knew I would be modding it to fit our needs. It is off roadable but not serious like rock crawling or anything fire roads and a little rougher are fine though. I will post a couple of pics of it basically stock but if you want more all the really cool mods start later in the build which is in my sig. I have more fun working on this thing than the truck. We have taken it some rough places and it has been great. the kitchen is a 4ft pull out in the rear and we have a tent for the pottie and shower. Ours is a '16 and all aluminum I believe the new ones are steel

It is a blast! We have more people walk up to look at it just wondering what it is. Ours was 900 pounds in stock form the new ones are 1300 I believe. I love the fact that when we get back I have it all cleaned up and everything repacked in about an hour and it's ready to go again except food and clothes. Check out the Taxa web site for their other offerings they even make a killer off road trailer called the woolybear

You only buy a pop up once, ok, so I got one twice.
My advice is to get one either 2-3k or new about 10-12k.
You can use a new one for 4 years and resell it for 75% if what you paid.IMG_20170708_192739.jpg MVIMG_20180628_212847.jpg

We have a vintage 1960 trailer that we had restored. We enjoy vintage trailer shows and getting away for the weekend.

That's a great trailer! I haven't seen one like that with two doors on it. I also have a Vintage Travel Trailer I enjoy camping in as well! Mine's a '63 Aristocrat Lo-Liner. I love mine, I had a pop-up tent trailer prior to this and almost quit camping because of it. So glad I got this little guy!

Plenty of folks own a pop up without any problems and love them.
I would personally get something with solid walls all the way around. Then again, we got bears out here.

Love your Lo-liner! You should try a vintage trailer rally. They are great fun!

Ours is a Platt. We have still not seen another 12 foot trailer with a “boy-friend-door”.

For sure, the guy I sold my pop-up too actually drove 500 miles to get it and was super-excited to use it! It just wasn't for me though. I used it for 4+ years, often in bear country (though I never cooked in it and know better than to keep food in it). It also survived some very windy nights out in the dunes with no problems either. Just seemed to be a lot of work; with the Travel Trailer I like that I can get stuff in and out of it with little effort. Saves room in my tow vehicle too since all my clothes, food, etc just goes in the trailer.

Thank you, I love it too! I just wish my GF enjoyed camping :( I used to use it regularly but now I'm lucky if I get to use it once a year. It has come in handy as an extra room when I've had guests at my house, which is nice.

I love the Boyfriend door on your trailer!

I may give a Rally a try sometime. I'm a member of the VCT and one of their Rally's is 30 minutes from my house (San Dimas). Just always seems to be on a weekend when I'm busy. They look like fun!
