I have two proper tools that fully engage the holes in the collar so nothing is getting trashed. I rotated both collars once mounted to make sure that the lock bolt was visible and when you are turning them in the looser direction they were reasonably cooperative, just tough to do. My bigger concern was galling threads but that doesn’t seem to be an issue...

Just WD40 or something like anti seize?

Wd40 or some penetrating oil works and you can get cranking a minute or two after the application.

Ended up being a very cold but awesome weekend. Had about 15 thru hikers roll through camp Sat and Sunday. One guy left the trail to retreat to Patagonia due to shin splints, I picked him up Fri night and he camped with us for 2 nights to rest his legs and get treatment by a PT friend of mine who was with us.

Table of goodies we had for the hikers.

The last 6 that made it through Sunday morning. Was a days gap from them back to anyone else so we headed into town to pick up a section hiker that needed a ride back to his car parked up by I-10

Think in the upcoming weeks I am going to head out to a few places and do more of this closer to town. It is just fun talking to everyone as they come through. Thru hikers are a unique breed and some interesting characters.

Need some help. 01 3.4. power steering pump. I took off the reservoir and cleaned the screen, it was dirty and clogged. Now pump is whining and fluid foaming out the top. I use ATF. Foam means that it is sucking air, correct? Did cleaning the screen increase pressure to expose a leak somewhere? Thoughts??? My steering has been intermittently stiff at times. Just read that the mix of ATF and power steering fluid could also be causing the foaming. I am not sure what fluid was in there before.

You got a place that does water jet cutting? Or just gonna drill & wing it?

I have this idea rolling around in my head to make HDPE skids for stuff like my transmission pan. Really just a debris shield but also would probably help with aerodynamics going under the car.

Used the spring compressor I hadn't returned yet, got just a hair of tension on the spring, then got the spring collar spinning. It's a ballbuster because the line is perpetually in the way, but once that spring tension is gone she spins pretty easy...

That said, even though it looks like all the preload is totally gone the spring is not slacked out at full droop, this is still 1" of preload (13" spring in 12" collar) and I am sitting basically right where I want it to be.

Kinda figured I’d use my table saw for some nice straight cuts. I’ve not really researched how well cutting would go.

I think a-arm coverage would be ideal for UMHW...worked great on my RZR.

I’d wonder about it melting the edges... then again I’m not a materials engineer. A-arm skids would be great but I currently have an aluminum set from RCI, what no one seems to make is a mid skid for prerunners. Hence why I wanna make something just to keep any debris away from the trans pan.

There was a fellow I met w/one of the baddest 4Runners I’ve ever seen who had a full UMHW belly skid (one piece as I recall) and about 3/4” thick too. I’ve no idea how he cut it, but it didn’t melt under the cats or anywhere around the exhaust. I guess I best do some research on cutting it just to be safe.

I dunno, like $300 if it's in good condition probably?

Scooped all you have to do is go to the swapping thread in 3rd gen classifieds and you will be ankle deep in offers in a second.
