Finally got the kings installed! And holy these springs didn’t settle much so I will have basically no threads showing on the shock body.

 

So far the Kings have been a night and day difference with the 6” lift. I thought I ordered the 650lb coils but after speaking with the guys at DSM they only do 600lb or 700lb coils in this length. The 700lb coils with minimal to no preload ride amazing on and off road.


I also got around to installing a DB customs grill. I was pretty nervous chopping up my OEM grill but install was straightforward with a dremel. I also just placed an order with caliraised to get some pods for the grill and ditch light kit.

 

Oh boy...




Getting started on my new vinyl wrap. Pretty long tedious process but I’m super happy with how it has been turning out.

PRO TIP: if you pull in a triangle to the corners it makes the vinyl lay flat then you can do overlapping squeegeeing to lay it faster.

 

Got around to installing the wrap! Super happy with how it came out.

 

I received my new FEND-X wheel liners and engine splash guards. Need to find time to install them.

 

Well I was out today doing some wheeling and my CV axle decided to break... going to replace it Thursday.

 

shoot, how'd it go? came down hard and it called quits? How'd you trail fix it to get you home without it flopping around?

 

No actually just going up a hill not giving it to much gas at all. I just had it replaced about 6-8months a go with minor wheeling. I think I probably got a bad CV axle? I ended up cutting it as I could not for the life of me get the 35mm nut off. I tried heat, impact, breaker bar, and no rust or corrosion. I will say though my little compressor didn’t power my impact all that well.

 

huh that is strange, was it an oem or aftermarket replacement? My fear has always been exactly what happened to you, breaking an axle and not being able to do a trail repair. Guess cutting it is good enough to get home though lol. Also if you ever want to run air tools offroad you can try going the budget powertank route with a co2 tank, works pretty well IMO.

 

Aftermarket from autozone. There was some slight clicking that happened before the break. And my thoughts exactly! This was only 20 mins from my home but the way it broke forced me to have to do something on the spot.

The truck is up on a spare lift at my friend's dad's shop. We are like 85% complete I just have not had a night off work for 9 straight 12s. Should have some pix up tomorrow or the next day hopefully!! But yea the front install is done RCD 5100s are in! (we had some issues with wrong crossmember being shipped for a 16+ so it further delayed the progress too... honest mistake and we caught it), just have to make time to do the rear, get alignment, and do a final torque and once over. Once I am done I'll be dropping a bunch of Photos in my build thread! (I also got side tracked with my super cheap Mini Cooper S build I just picked up as my DD i started a thread on) Thanks again!

Ordered a smittybilt X20 10,000lb synthetic line winch to install in the ARB to give it some weight up front. Excited to get it installed and see how the ride is after it is in.

wont drop much, you need to drop preload, that makes a bigger difference. Winch is only 60 or more #

feel like an idiot for throwing my OEM ones away because split boots. Also my fabtech diff drop was re installed half assed by the person who installed my new gears. So I think I broke the bracket which allowed the front diff to raise about 1” and when the truck had droop on the front left while climbing the hill was enough for it to snap. Here is what I found after replacing the CV. I honestly hate how lazy “mechanics” can be. Instead of spending the money for installs I will be doing a majority of my own work to my rig. Took me a couple hours but I was able to lower the diff down and get 3 bolts as it should have all connected. This improved my angles but I will now need to lower my preload on the coils. I think I need a nicer spammer wrench than the ice pick king sent.

Whats up my man. I saw you did a little write up on the DK UCA's and I see you still have them. How have they been treating you since your last report? I read somewhere the UCA can rub the hose of the rezi a little. I also have Kings, so hence the inquiry. Hows your caster numbers looking? I need to replace bushings in my SPC's, but thinking it may be time to upgrade a bit. How often do you find you need to dry lube the ball and grease the bushings? I know I'll need to do more maintenance coming from an SPC, which I pretty much do nothing for, just trying to get an idea. Appreciate any info you can give, thanks.

 

So far so good. I dry lube them anytime I’m doing maintenance on the truck. Haven’t ever had any squeaking come from them ever. I think I’m going to replace the uniballs soon. I’ll have to get back to you on my alignment numbers. And I do not see any rubbing on the resi or resi hose.
