P2445 Secondary air Injection....

Stuck off bank 1? I have a 2014 4.0. Most people get the P2440-P2442 code. I got the P2445 along with the P0418. I know this subject has been beat to death, but there is hardly any info on the P2445. My issue is I cant figure out if it's the pump or the valves? Does anyone have experience with particular code?

 

On mine when the valves stuck, and it went into limp mode, I got a complete suite of SAI codes including yours and a couple others including a Bank 2 oxygen sensor, MAF sensor, and the Trac Off light.

Those other codes disappeared right away but the others will linger and show on a good scan tool until a complete drive cycle is done, and this could take quite a while. I did not try to isolate any particular one as I was aware of the problems with the SAI by the time I experienced the fault. I just opened up both valves and it was carbon-city at very low mileage so I knew where to spend my time. I suppose you could try to isolate this to the relay and air pump by doing some inspection and wiring checks. Its certainly possible.

 

Thanks taco 09. I'm assuming the valves are shot. After reading some Toyota service notes the p2445 pointing towards the "Air Diverter" or pump really threw me off since I've never seen that particular part being a topic of fail. With one of three parts costing between 2-6hundred bucks. I really dont want to start throwing parts to see what sticks.

 

It seems with the SAI system that the problem either occurs in the valves or the pump. I hate just blindly throwing parts at problems, but if it sounds like the pump is working, my guess is that it's the valves. Good luck and please keep us 2012+ guys posted.

 

When I did my sons 2012 two years ago the dealership recommended replacing them both. Pump and valve. The pump was fine other than cleaning out the old foam filter and installing the uni filter so I just bought the valve online for about 300 or 350 and installed myself. Two years and no problems.

 

My pump is not coming on at all. I took it apart and the blade looks perfect and spinning freely. I was hoping with the bank being stuck open, its trigger the pump not to fire. Just wish Toyota would just blanket cover this part

O yea they ( Toyota ) have since I fixed mine admitted it is a problem and will pay to have it repaired. Something to check on before you throw any parts at it.

 

I always prefer Toyota parts, but I hear good things about this Dorman part (for a 5.7L Tundra; the electrical connections are turned 180 degrees so you have to loosen your Tacoma wiring harness a bit)

this should be warranty replacement with a new warranty on the new SAI. My truck warranty was up but they still replaced it because it's such a common problem.

 

Pretty sure the warranty is just for 2012 trucks. Toyota claims to have "fixed" the problem in 2013, 14 and 15 1GR-FE Tacomas by cycling the pump on shut-down to remove moisture build-up in the system. I would still talk with the dealer, though.

 

Toyota covers all years up too 2012 on the Tacoma. 13-15 They do not. I open a case with Toyota about it to see if they would possibly cover or help with parts. So far its been "sorry about ya"

 

that sucks. I guess the part wasn't actually improved or fixed. More reason to get the bypass.

Those are the valves originally labeled for just the Tundra IIRC. Someone else tried them when they first came out and reported they worked fine.

After my ordeal of experiencing the limp mode out on the middle of the mountains (near you by the way DesertRatliff) I found a return of these on Amazon and got the set for a paltry $90. I see they are substantially more now but lots less than OEM.

I made a kit that I keep with me at all times that includes these valves, OEM gaskets and some 1/4" drive sockets that I can now do a repair on the trail if need be. Believe me when I say that you don't even want to have your truck go into that dreaded limp mode while far away in a remote area. For starters the limp leaves you with no power and even using 4lo you could be in trouble.

 

When you say "set", did you also include the pump?

I was looking today and saw there were lots of Toyota specific SAI pumps (for the 4.7L and 5.7L V8's) that are much, much cheaper than the one for the 4.0L V6 even though from the picture they look the same. Curious if there's a cheaper pump from another application that works, too?

 

I'm wondering why the 2012's can't be flashed or modified in some way to have the blower run longer the same as the 13-15's. And is there a bypass for this that actually works?

 

Little up date folks! After trying to find some info on the P2445 code I came across some Toyota service Manuals online. The P2445 code didn't point to the valves. It actually pointed to the 'Air diverter" under the manifold. So I started to chase that and everything still pointed to the valves being stuck. About 10min away from buying a set of valves. I took the hose off the pump, blew on both sides. No Air passes through. Crap its the pump itself. Took it apart again and it looked perfect. Put everything back together. For shits and giggles I check the fuse box. Dedicated relay for the air pump. Swapped it out with the power windows relay and....Sum bitch. The sweet sound of the pump whistle. It was the frickin relay. I can hear my dad from 25yrs ago. Check the fuse box first you big dummy. I haven't lost a relay in 10 years in any car. It wasn't even on my radar. Thanks again folks for the info.

Same thing happned to my 2012 Taco, Took to the dealer and there is a warranty that covers this for up to 150K miles, or till March 2022. They took care of it.
