Oil catch can but why?

it doenst seem like alot to me for 26k. so every 50 k your dumping 8oz or so. meaning at 200k or so youd have dumped 4 bottles of that give or take.

To my understanding....

The reason the pvc is conected straight to the intake manifold is so that, the oil gets sucked to the top of the motor better with the help of that negative pressure created by the pcv valve, and at times yes oil does get sucked in to the intake manifold through there, so IMO if you get a catch can that air tight and has a good design, yes ofc do it, iam installing mine this weekend.

All you really want is with the help of the intake manofolds negative pressure to raise the oil up to the valve train easyer..

That looks clean, how did you get the stainless steel braided hose to attach onto the PCV valve on the engine?

 

The 6 built in waste incinerators quickly and efficiently burn the minute blow-by particulates as they are introduced to the intake stream. Collected over time it appears to be a significant quantity, but simple math will prove that the amount ingested by a cylinder will be in the hundredths of a gram per combustion cycle.

 

The other issue with them is if it does catch a bunch of oil, and you forget to drain it until it fills up.

 

He wasn't saying that it wouldn't collect oil. He was saying there is not real benefit to collecting the oil. It'll just get burned through the engine. You'll also most likely need to rebuild the engine before the "gunk" build up on the valves is a problem.

For the right application, they work fine. For most daily driver type cars/trucks, they aren't needed.

 

Only time I have ever used an oil catch can was on my 16 WRX and that was because of how the DIT engine was built. The only reason I used it was to keep the combustion chamber cleaner so I didn't have to worry about walnut blasting. Obviously sold that before I ever had to do it. On a non-aspirated car I see no reason for an oil catch can.

 

The aluminum ends have hose clamps built into them. Autozone sells the hoses with the ends. Cut to length and clamp them down. No leaks or codes.

 

If you change your oil and filter regularly and install a catch can, your engine will run for 200,000 miles.
If you change your oil and filter regularly and don't install a catch can, your engine will run for 200,000 miles.

I'll leave the catch cans for the guys who are struggling with their Ford f150 EcoBoost engines. They seem to need it more than our tacos.

Where did you buy the hoses from? do they come pre-cut? What length? or can they be made to size?

 

Autozone sells the hoses. They give you plenty of hose. You have to cut them to the length you need. Probably could mount the can anywhere in the engine bay with the amount of hose you get. I cut them in half and mounted it on the drivers side. Hope this helps.

 

Carbon buildup would have struck anyways. The best way to not worry about it is to do what you did - get rid of that car.

It’s even issue with EGR block off plates, but they do increase the gap between cleaning. Just a byproduct of DITs.
