Bringing back and older thread but to all that like to get money back at the end of the year send me $20 weekly and in 52 weeks I'll mail you a check for $1040.00. If you send me a $100 a week in 52 weeks I'll mail you a check for $5,200.00. Its that easy!

Not buying anything sadly. Only getting back <$1000, which isn’t much compared to usual >$4000 I used to get. Plus with my son being due June 1st, what little bit we’re getting is going in savings.

I too do not like to give 0% loans to the gubment, but owning a bunch of leveraged long term rentals gives you insane tax benefits, so I do receive money from Uncle Sam every year.

This year I will buy a few pieces of recovery gear, including: dynamic recovery strap, maxtraxs, rotopax, snatch block, hard and soft shackles, chainsaw, etc. and then the rest gets tucked away for another piece of real estate.

    Too much.
I get nailed with this as well. I'm a NH resident, but work in MA....

Even with the changes for this (last) year? I tried my damndest to pass the $24k auto deduction and couldn't even get near it. Maybe the CPA did. But we have all kinds of crap going on (capital gains, 3 LLCs, etc), and I claim like 9 exemptions, and I still got a really big return last year. This year I'm hoping it got closer to zero again. Taxation is theft......

That said, whatever we get goes to paying the truck down.

Yes, though not quite as good as last year, I will admit.

But I had one place vacant for a few months while a remodel was being completed, and that disparity between rental income and mortgage interest paid, along with remodel and maintenance costs, helped level things out for me.

To me, I spend zero time contemplating taxation. I merely do my absolute best to play the game, as it is presented to me, and one that is entirely outside of my sphere of influence, as well as I possibly can.

If you can wait until June, I may be able to TW express them up to you. I'll be coming through Calgary and up the Icefield Parkway through Banff and Jasper on the way to Tuk. Not sure where in Alberta you are.

OK, I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time, but not to you specifically...

I get the mindset here, but why is it that like 99% of the people that I talk to that say this "tax is theft" line are current/former federal (funded by tax revenue) employees? *I say this as a former fed*

Yeah, the feds are massively inefficient at a lot of stuff and wasteful, but things like the intelligence community and the military/homeland security can't exactly be privately held corporations that we commoners buy into Amazon-style. Although I am pretty sure that would be Eric Prince's wet dream. I don't like high taxes either, but how might a government pay for goods and services directed for "common welfare" if not for some sort of tax based funding?

Let's avoid politics in this, just trying to understand others beliefs.

Mind pointing me in the direction of how to understand this? Seems like tax benefits are as important as investments.
