Just bought a used 2017 and looking to upgrade it for exploring the PNW. I dont do any crazy rock climbing or mud bogging. Mainly rutted out PNW fireroads and some light wheeling and snow wheeling.

Want something SOFT. I wanna be able to run fireroads at 25/30mph without feeling like my truck is going to shake apart. I had a 2011 t4r trail with a stage 2 Icon setup and it was NOT soft.

Already talked to headstrong. they are ok for answering basic questions but dont seem to wanna give an actual opinion....

Im considering the Fox setup here:
    https://www.headstrongoffroad.com/s...OME_Dakar_Leaf_Packs_-_05-Current_Tacoma.html

    Any opinions?
Should I get ext travel? adj rears? ucas?

truck is currently stock. plans for wheels/tires, sliders, lights. no bumpers/winch/cap/

    Thanks for any help

    list is growing fast
That set up will be perfect for you. pull the trigger.

I opted for level 3, with adjuster front and rear and glad I did because I do actually make adjustments from time to time and i do notice a difference. Yes to UCA's if you go with ext. travel (It's only a 1/2" but I opted for it and glad I did). I use my truck a lot for what you say you want to do, so feel like my testimony is a good one for you.

Thanks for the input everyone! It sounds like Fox is a good choice.
Appreciate the link accutune - $4k is well over what I am willing to spend. I hoping to get out for less than 3

Why waste money on Fox. Just get the old man emu setup with 887’s and sport shocks. Skip the upper control arms as it’s only a 2” lift. It’ll ride like butter. Plus it’s a world wide proven application with a price tag of only $1200...

I’ve ran icons and Fox. Neither will be as smooth as the OME under your listed driving conditions.

I’ve ran bilstein, ome, and now kings. Hands down Kings ride the best (I’d sure hope so for the price) and where they really shine is what you’re talking about. You could get kings all around and Dakar leaf pack and be right at $3k

If your budget is around $3k, you can get away with just getting front and rear shocks. If you opt out of getting the DSCs, that will save you a lot more as well. Either way we will tune what ever shock option you choose.

    Front Coilovers with DSC adjusters
Front Coilovers, no remote reservoir and no DSC

Rear 2.0 remote reservoir with CD adjusters
    Rear 2.0 Shock

I just looked at accutune website to check out their king prices. I would buy from them. A little more money but they tune the shocks to what you want, and IIRC they’ll do one more free tune later on. That’s worth it.

I’d still get dakars from headstrong though. They’re cheap as hell from them.

You really don’t NEED them. Sure they’re nice to get your alignment a bit better, but based on what you want to do, you don’t need the extra little bit of travel they extended Kings offer, so standard length are fine. Plus the only difference between the two is a little internal spacer that can be removed to turn standard travel into extended travel.

So IMO i would hold off because those can be added later. And for those I recommend JBA. $450ish shipped and an excellent, no frills product.

Cut & broke off some stuff.
Just so it's been said, tire size and pressure will have a big effect on how soft the ride feels. Even just a few psi can be noticable.

That’s very true. I air down to 20psi if I plan on bombing fire roads. 12-13psi for slow speed crawling.

Why not just get ARB shocks and springs and be done. You don't need fox suspension to drive around on fire roads...just saying.

    Edit: or kings either

You’re in the PNW, modded Toyota’s are everywhere haha

Try and find the local guys and ask about their set ups and take rides with them.
