I am not perpetuating violence at all! I actually have told the OP to just fix his own truck and be the bigger man. I am saying the people who are advising legal action and the people who feel the need to bring our government into civil situations and disagreements is absurd. I am saying be a man and take care of it as such, do not rely on the threat of legal action and suing for emotional distress. Come on, so your hood got dented. Fix your shit and work it out between your neighbor and yourself. Be the bigger man, talk to the guy and if he refuses to be civil then put up cameras and get a restraining order. Do not sue for emotional distress.

Church it up simply mean you are trying to make something sound like what it is not. Has nothing to do with an eye for an eye. I suggest you go back and read my post in this thread. My comment pertaining to suing for emotional distress has nothing to do with the OP's situation. That is simply the pussafacation of our country's men. Men will disagree, they will fight. Throw a bag of frozen peas on it and move on.

I definitely didn't advocate for legal action, I did say that hiring a lawyer and going after other damages is ridiculous. I suggested at most to go to small claims court to fix the dent. Regardless of what happened, the guy dented the hood, which you shouldn't do in a civilized society.

The more I read this thread and thought about it though, the more I started to think just chalking it up as a lesson learned might be the best course of action.

I know you weren't talking to me in your post, but I agree so figured I'd clear it up a little.

I guess my trigger is the thought of a man actually signing a document stating he was in emotional distress and needs to be compensated for it. I mean just chop your dick off and file that away with the lawsuit!

Clarification understood and agreed -- emotional distress is horse shit, response should be in balance with what you're responding to, but also making use of the proper tools rather than perpetuating violence, etc.

Justice is merely a state of mind. The longer it takes to achieve it, the more time it wastes in your consciousness.

    That's definitely high, but useful.
Bring that quote to the cops to complain about your neighbor. See what they suggest.

Isn't a new hood cheaper than that? Did he punch other things?

Keep in mind that every body shop has 2 prices.... the INSURANCE price, and the CASH price (based on reasonable real world costs, in terms of materials and labor). This is obviously the insurance price, and is based on what they expect they can suck out of an insurance company.

I know, I had a small scratch fixed from a lady that hit my truck while parked. It was about $1,500 and fixed through her insurance. I was just thinking, if OP just wants to fix it, the cash price will be a lot less than that insurance price. I just searched hoods and they're not expensive at all primed, and even with paint it shouldn't get too crazy.

If that guy did this to someone else's vehicle in FL, it would result in a faceful of lead followed by no criminal charges filed.

    Yes. Exactly.
And IMO, he's got enough rock chips on that hood that PDR to pop the steel back where it belongs, plus a $10 tube of touch-up paint to seal the new chip in the paint (and all the existing ones) would put him in a reasonable position.

So really time to decide what the right avenue to take is.

In fact if it were me, I'd go with a legal response to asshole neighbor via cops, using the insanely high quote as supporting evidence, get what you can out of the neighbor using totally non-violent means, and then fix it for cheap. I.e., maybe OP can negotiate along the lines of "each pay half", grab some cash out of neighbor, and end up ahead.

You know, he could even go up to the guy completely reasonable, saying something along the lines of "I get where you're coming from, I'll try to make sure to keep the speed down. BTW: This is what the body shop is saying about the cost of fixing the dent, think you can take half so we can put this shit behind us?"

In fact, a little more psychological manipulation can really put OP on top here, while still making a profit. If the guy agrees to half, take the $750, fix it for $50, and then go BACK to the guy and say they did it for cheaper and give back $100.

I didn't read all 8 pages, so this might have been discussed, but what happened to the guy's hand? That is a legit dent. I have basically a boxer's fracture on my right hand from punching who knows what. It is a pain in the ass and swells up many years later. I'd imagine at least he has that, maybe an actual break.
