I removed my catch can. Pain in the ass. Sits on the garage floor with other junk.

Three years old, 35k miles, my truck. Never had the intake tube off, always replaced the air filter with OEM at 12k.

This oil left a trail into the throttle body and tb flapper.

This is the residual stuff that a proper catch can will collect before it goes into the intake and the throttle body.

Idk if the catch can would have an affect on that side side of the pcv system. That's the fresh air side

Yeah I won’t be getting one either.. after going down the rabbit hole of this topic I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not necessary for a Tacoma. The built in cleaning system will take care of any of that junk and the cons (increased maintenance, freezing in winter, money) don’t outweigh the pros (none for dual injection vehicles).

Most never go down the rabbit hole labled common sense. There is a place for a catch can... the Tacoma engine bay is not it.

I will again disagree for those that did not read all of this. If you wheel, steep inclines cause issues with this, and many engines. You can look up as many posts or YouTube as you want. I have had it happen personally. Runs up longer steep inclines causes oil to pool and get pushed out the PCV. My engine shut down on a steep rocky incline, forcing me to back down without power. Many kept on the pedal and blew smoke. Some kept on the pedal further and blew engines. If you don't wheel, than maybe it's not an issue, but saying they are dumb or have no place is wrong.

It's that kind of mentality that makes these threads turn to shit. Personal attacks for people having personal preferences. It's a bummer

I don’t have a third gen but I don’t follow this logic. Then how does the oil end up before the butterfly in the first place?

It's on the vacuum side of the intake, it's sucking the vapors from the valve cover area
