Intro to fitting 35s (< 3" Lifts for those that wheel and love alignments)

If you have SPC uppers, you want the ball joint in position E. Then adjust the aft cam bolt on the lower to full forward caster (rotate the arrow all the way outboard) and then take it to the alignment shop and tell them not to fucking touch the caster adjustment or you will burn their shop to the ground. They should be able to get you dialed in with camber and toe fairly easily. You'll notice in the pic below that I am running 35" tires and have no rubbing.

Tell Josh what you want and he’ll make it happen. Tell him full forward caster that can be achieved. Explain that the uppers automatically add 2 degrees of positive caster on the uppers so in theory, the lowers when zeroed out are technically -2 even though the machine will read 0. That’s how it was explained to me by an alignment guru many many moons ago.

 

Adjust your uppers before you get there. Put them in position E.

Also, tell Josh that you don’t want the caster offset that they like to do. These trucks do not like it at all.

 

The caster offset. or cross caster? is probably why I’m rubbing way worse on my drivers side? I’d guess? Anyway, thanks again.. not trying to hijack a good thread.

 

Cross caster I guess. They like to do 1 degree difference.

 

I think @Trident904 has you covered. I don’t have my truck readily available at the moment, otherwise I would send pictures. You want to start with the cam bolts positioned correctly.

I believe the lower aft cam is positioned with the arrows facing outward and the forward cam bolts are facing inward.

Watch them do the alignment. You will see the entire wheel and axle shift slightly forward as they rotate.

 

Gotcha hopefully get rid of that gawd awful rubbing sound on my flare. and get the VSC reset tomorrow. I’m fairly confident they can do this.. i just want to be properly informed just in case..

So would more back space just change where you rub? I'm looking at getting some icon wheels with some 35 cooper stt pros. After reading these post though I'm second guessing it. They run 5" of back space on the rebounds and 4.75 on the compressions. Anyone have any experience with this?

Side note, I'm currently running a rough country 6" lift lift with some tuff country uca, tires ate currently 34x11.5 with no rubbing and no cutting.
Current alignment:

 

If you're on 6" of lift you'll be fine. The lower the backspace number the further the tire and wheel stick out from the fender. 5" of backspace is alot and you may run the risk of rubbing on UCA with the tire. Realistically, you would want 3.5 - 4.5 backspace.

 

One more question.. Where does the SPC logo face when set on E?

 

Angled forward 45 degrees I believe. I haven't had SPC uppers in over a year now.

Ok maybe I’m chasing numbers but with the uppers set at ‘E’ and the lowers maxed out all i can get is a little over 2° on drivers side?? Does this make any sense? Explain it as if you were speaking to a 5yr old so i can understand lol

 

That's about right which in reality will be about +4 since the SPC uppers add 2*.

 

It is my understanding that the machines can't calculate it because the +2 added by the uppers doesn't register in the system.

 

Ok i thought so.. add 2°.. i tried calling SPC as they are usually really good with customer service.. no answer

 

All good. Are you at CTM now? They'll test drive and make sure it doesn't rub. Have them go full lock both directions in reverse to test for rubbing.
