Only one person to blame! I'm sure I'll get it sorted here, but I'm just over this project and still have more to do.

    LOL, live and learn.

    Yep.

I'm going to go ahead and blame trail gear. :D I read someone else who claimed the bombproof mounts lowered his engine an inch, which would mean my perches are in the right spot. :tinfoilhat:

are you happy with the quality of the perches? one of mine broke off and I need to fix it. I have only seen the dmz ones until your thread with these.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
My TG bombproofs had the engine in the exact same spot afterward. But it sounds like they were originally designed for the 22RE and they just happened to fit other engines that use the same style mounts (even though those mounts might not be identical in all respects). It makes sense that my 4banger would sit about the same but if there is some other difference in a V6 mount that it could change up and down a bit.

Quality if fine, aside from the issue of the bottom portion hanging below the frame and needing to cut them. When I talked to them it sounded like an issue with a recent redesign that they would be addressing it though, so it might be fixed.

Time = money though, so if I were to do it again, I would probably just get the DMZ ones to have them fully welded and ready to toss on.

I think this picture sums it up pretty well.

Aside from the noticeable height difference, the stud is also higher up on the OEM mount. Also means that like a 1/3 of the plate that's against the engine bracket is sticking out past the edge.

Huh odd. Mine raised it up an inch I'd guess. Weird.

Maybe I'm not understanding the geometry here (never messed with motor mounts) but if the perches were where they needed to be for the motor to be in the right place would they still stick below the frame?

I just remeasured versus some measurements I took initially. Problem is all in the mounts, not the perches.

And to put this to bed I tossed back in the original mounts.

    IMAG0836.jpg

Took this measurement this morning with the tg mounts in and asked for others to compare.

    IMAG0834.jpg

Had a couple guys get back to me with a measurement of 4.5". And here's where I'm at with the OEM mounts back in.

    IMAG0837.jpg

So confirmed the tg mounts will drop your engine 1". Yes still I fucked up and didn't weld the perches in high enough, but hopefully that helps someone else considering them.

Funny enough mine are coming out. Sadly not in the next week or two..so timing doesn't work out for Brett. Be interesting to compare if they are the same.

Overlanding? Doesn't that require a 3rd gen Taco or 5th gen 4Runner and scratching you IG handle into rocks? :stirthepot:
