Hmm, I'll buy a can and spray section of metal in the garage so I can monitor it then before I commit. I know bar and chain oil works as well or better than fluid film and that has no smell after you cut it with a touch of acetone.

Same, except it'll be time to start some maintenance for me. I need to adjust/snug up the 100 series front wheel bearings. And a new battery for it, I took the Costco Interstate battery it had and put it in the taco lol and I'll have to do some frame preservation for the Taco. I really just wanna spray my old engine oil underneath but we'll see

Used engine oil is pretty carcinogenic so I'd advise against it, not to mention it washes off easily compared to tackier oils and is bad for the environment. But wear a really good mask if you do decide to. What do you use to adjust you wheel bearings, I sorta have developed a feel for it and then check if they're hot for the next couple drives.

Krown rust preventative is another option. Dunno how it smells though, and its only available online.

I think Krown is supposed to be super low VOC. They spray it inside door panels and all.

Idk, I just see Eric O of South main auto swear by it and fluid film.

It's been around in Canada for a really long time and is a good treatment. I wish they would have some locations in the US although there would be no reason to be in any states I'd live in so I guess it doesn't matter if they're here or not haha

I guess that's one way to phrase it. You can actually steal the transfer case from a limited 3rd gen 4runner to get a center diff.

I wouldn't even have to spray it anywhere like the engine bay, just inside the "frame rails" and a couple pockets behind quarter panels. So this sounds like it could be a great option, easier than loading bar and chain oil into my siphon gun for such a small project.

What kinda leak did you have? Also that 62 series looks very nice. I like those a lot, they're getting as valuable as 40s now
