Just thinking about it, McDavid-Draisaitl-RNH is a cup contending 1-2-3 and yet the rest of the Oilers team is so fucking bad they are a disaster. Also against the cap. It's mind blowing how terrible a situation they are in. Mind blowing

You know they’re terrible when they have to play Draisaitl with McDavid. You need to split up those two, they’re both elite centres. Otherwise you’re only competitive for the third of the game when those two are on the ice. When they’re split though they get shut down hard so I guess they’re jammed with that line.

Loved Grundstrom. Weird how they traded him as he's the closest to an NHL ready player and they need cheap ones next season

He was a mile offside , Minny couldn't challenge it because no goal on the play

The current offside rule is really easy to call. A good linesman will get the call right most of the time. It's the review that makes things interesting, since procession isn't determined from a single image. It's the concept that a player is controlling the puck even if it's not directly on his stick.

That being said officials make mistakes, and the guys in the show are some of the worst to watch for proper procedure and positioning when you're trying to teach young officials how to put yourself in the best spot to make a call.

Bros, this was totally onsides. Clearly full control.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::thumbsup:

Worst part was that was reviewed and still called onsides. That is ok but a guy has his skates 1mm off of the ice ahead of the puck carrier is no good. Gotcha lol. Didn't see the Couture thing but just wanted to make a point here. I am actually all for the correct call. If they want to call a guy 1mm offsides and blow the play dead, hey fine by me. But you can't also allow a dude to put his body across the line, drag the puck into the zone and drop off / re-posses the puck like 5 seconds later and claim it was 'control' FOH.

    TL/DR

Couture was offside , carried puck in towards net and was fouled , awarded penalty shot so no goal on original play . He scored on PS , Wild complained he was offside , then ref's hit the headsets to talk to NHL HQ and announced Wild could not challenge because goal was not scored on original play

I wasn't making a point about whether he was offside or not , he was clearly offside

I get that, all I'm saying is I read on twitter (and here) people were complaining that he was called on-side by possession. I didn't actually see it happen but I already saw what they let the Sabres get away with by 'possession' (pic above). If they are going to let guys skate into the zone and drag the puck after or whatever, then you can't also call a play back when someone's skate is a millimeter off the ice. That's my point. They need to revise the rule.

My opinion? Maybe given the purpose of the review was to stop grossly missed offsides the challenge should be removed and Toronto should just review all scoring plays. IE the call on the ice stands unless it’s a scoring play that TO seems offside.

The point of this review system was never to nitpick offsides down to the level it’s at now.
