Probably not a bad idea, wouldn't want improperly packaged specimens coming unsealed during USPS handling.

For collection, I just stick the little specimen container in the discharge stream during oil drains after a few seconds of oil flow so it's caught straight from the engine with minimal contamination as it passes through the drain hole. And I do oil changes with the engine at operating temp so the oil and whatnot are reasonably homogeneous...likely helps get the crap out as I put both passenger side wheels on ramps to tilt the engine downward toward the drain plug.

Yes this is the $28 test. Go here https://www.blackstone-labs.com/products/free-test-kits/ to request a free test kit. This kit has everything you need to take a sample including a prepaid envelope to mail it back. When you send in a sample, they will automatically send you a new test kit so you will have one ready for next time.

Curious about other folk's experiences. I've had two (2) Blackstone Labs samples done on my motor oil. Both times I used 5W-30 Mobile 1 Full Synthetic. I had one oil change between the two that I did not have tested.

Both samples I put close to 5k miles on for the change interval. Both times my Iron levels tested at 27 and 29.

I run a MAF Calibrator from URD and URD Headers. Other than that the motor itself is stock. And I really don't think I drive it that hard as it's a daily driver 90% of the year. No idling aside from 30-60 seconds after starting before I drive.

I'm pretty surprised at the longevity of the oil even with this last change. A majority of those miles are high RPM heavy towing.

I have tried multiple times to send in oil changes via usps from edgewood and po's in Abq. None of them would take them.

@Chiloquin_Car_Care as I promised here is my Blackstone report on my oil. I changed it a little early at 12,300 miles. Looks like I am going to move my OCI up to 14,000 miles. Mobil 1 was the oil strictly because it was the cheapest I found due to the rebate.

nada....maybe a license plate one day & BA bumpers
86taco sport- you should go 20k miles, hell go 25k before your next change....lol
love to see the results on that

I once knew a dumb person who didnt change there oil for 50k miles...needed a new motor after that
I suspect your motor will fail prematurely due to your long oil change intervals
if I was you, I would never change my oil again....lets see how good your taco really is

when you cross 200k lets talk, which looks like would be the year 2021 for you
you drive 20k miles on average per year, so you are lucky if you change your oil 2 times per year
I have changed my oil 64 times in six years
I get 22mpg, & the motor runs like new
changing the oil every 5k miles does not hurt anything,
rather I am following the engine manufacturers recommendations when it comes to oil change timing
does blackstone make the motor in your taco or toyoda? YODA!

I may do an oil analysis on my 2003 Tacoma with 204,000 miles and my 2014 Tacoma with 91,000 miles. Both trucks have been getting 10,000 OCI with Mobil 1 since they were new. Your report looks excellent.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Once a year with Mobil 1. 297k on it now. I run approximately 15k yearly just back and forth to work. I average 20k ish a year. I will check it every other month or so level wise. If it gets close to the low mark I'll top it of with some fresh. Oddly enough I did just change the trans fluid after a four year old Denso radiator failed.
