Our season started today, well yesterday 09/13/08
my wife and I both bowhunt

we both shoot Bowtech allegiance bows mine is '05 hers 06, with deadnuts sights and cobra drop rests. hers is set up very simpler to mine with poundage ordered lower for her abilities.

didn't go out today 92 degrees and hunting public land to much of a frenzy here, even with it only being archery season. Want temps to be a little more enjoyable.

So I have been trying to convince myself to get into bow hunting for the past couple of years and I think that I have got myself talked into it now. What do you guys recommend for starters? I plan on going with one of those "Ready to hunt" type deals. Something like the PSE Whitetail Obsession or Reflex Growler, those seem to be the better of the bows in my price range. Has anyone taking that big one they have been tracking?

always good to hear of someone getting into bowhunting. either of those bows sound like a good entry level choice.....plenty of speed and ease of use. about the only advice i can tell you is practice,practice,practice..........and when you think you are good.....practice some more!!:D;)

well....my season has started off slow this year.......i have only seen 3 does so far, and i just had my neck surgery, so im out of it a couple of weeks. im really wanting the weather to cool down a bit.....been too warm and cant really make its mind up here!

tacomaman06 said it well. Get the fundamentals from someone experienced, then #1 thing is practice. and also have fun. not been to the woods yet due to new 7 day a week job. Hope to start heavy before November. Watch out...if you think moddin your Taco is addictive, wait till you get to the peaceful bowhunting woods!

I've still got 8 more days until the Alabama season opens. I'm getting restless, opening day is like a holiday to me.

Hey thanks for the response guys. I have shot a bow a few good times and tore my arm up just about as many. My plans are to get one this season and practice (no hunting) to make sure I can put a nice clean shot on the deer. I have a few buddy's that know a little so I can look to them to get some knowledge. I used to hunt with nothing but rifles but had a close call when I was younger being stupid/inexperienced and haven't used it since.

hey will, are you having to do physical therapy after your surgery? I just had shoulder surgery a couple of weeks ago and am going thru serious hunting withdrawl. they say it could be 8 weeks before i can hunt again to which i told the physical therapist "bullshit". i'm planning on going out next week. are you able to pull your bow back?

hey bro......nah, no physical therapy for me, and the dr. said i may not need it. right now, its hard to pull the bow back because i cant turn my neck at all, so it puts alotta strain on my upper neck and all...........but, in a week or so, im going back out, and thats a fact!

Our season here in MD has been in since Mid-September.

Being up at school in WV during the week, I don't get much time to hunt back home but every weekend. It's shaping up to be a beautiful and successful season.

I have taken 30+ deer already this year on crop damage permits. Our local herd is out of control, and the DNR gives permits to kill unlimited antlerless deer in approved farm management areas. I have access and permits to several local farms, so deer hunting for me was all summer long. Most of the deer were donated to Farmers Feeding the Hungry Program, or I donated them to local needy families.

I've kept my 560acre farm for regular season, and have been seeing some decent deer throughout the summer.

I shoot a PSE Whitetail Extreme, with Muzzy 3 blades, and Goldtip Carbon Arrows. I hope to soon retire the PSE for a Matthews. Looking for something shorther and easier to carry. However, my PSE has given me absolutely no problems in 8 years of ownership and hunting/shooting. I've even had a good amount of luck with that bow!

Happy Hunting, and remember. Aim Small, Miss Small. ;)

very, very nice!!! thats probably what im going to end up getting later on. i love the draw cycle of the lights out!!!

as for targets.........im using a rinehart 18 in 1 portable.......best damn target i have ever had. it really helps with your aim also. they are a little expensive..........but the foam they use closes up to like new condition......be kinda hard to wear that one out, even with lots and lots of practice.
